Thomas Haddow Wilson was a physician.

He lived at 1142 Chilco Street from 1913 to 1927.

 

Early Life

Thomas Haddow Wilson was born on February 3, 1869, near Kitchener in Waterloo County, Ontario.

His parents were  John Wilson (about 1839-1915) and Mary Haddow (about 1831-1913).

Thomas went to Queen’s University in Kingston.

He also attended Manitoba University, where he received his medical degree in 1897.

He practiced as a physician in Manitoba for a short time.

 

To Vancouver

Thomas arrived in Vancouver in 1898.

 

Marriage to Clara Mitchell

On August 3, 1898, in Vancouver, Thomas married Clara May Mitchell. She was born on April 21, in 1872 or 1875, in Minneapolis, Minnesota (or Peoria, Illinois). Her parents were Peter Mitchell  and Annie Richardson.

Life in Vancouver

In 1909, the Wilson family was living at 407 East Hastings Street.

In addition to his medical practice, Thomas built the Patricia Hotel at 403 East Hastings Street in Vancouver.

Thomas owned an early Cadillac automobile, which had licence number 244.

In 1911, he drove from Vancouver to Los Angeles.

In 1913, Thomas and his family moved to their house at 1142 Chilco Street.

 

Later Life

Thomas continued to practice medicine for much of his time in Vancouver.

In 1925, Thomas and Clara were robbed at their home.

Thomas died in Vancouver on February 15, 1927. He was buried in Mountain View Cemetery in Vancouver.

Thomas left his estate to Clara. She was to hold half of the estate in trust for two children, Lloyd and Marjorie.

Clara died in Trail, British Columbia on July 25, 1962. She was buried in Mountain View Cemetery in Vancouver.

Frank Lloyd Wilson

Frank Lloyd Wilson was born on February 4, 1907, in Vancouver.

He studied at the University of British Columbia and he became a physician.

During the Second World War, he served with the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps.

In the mid-1950s, Frank married Rosemary Jane Hornett, who was a registered nurse. She was born on August 25, 1921, in Loverna, Saskatchewan. Her parents were George Hornett (1883-1972) and Rose Richardson (1888-1975).

Loverna is immediately east of the Alberta-Saskatchewan border, about 60 kilometres west of Kindersley. Although the town is almost deserted now, it was once a thriving community.

By 1926, the Hornett family had moved to New Brigden, Alberta, a small town about 35 kilometres northwest of Loverna.

By about 1935, the Hornett family was in Nelson, British Columbia.

Rosemary studied nursing in Cranbrook, British Columbia and Toronto, Ontario. In the late 1940s, she went to Portland, Oregon.

Anna Marjorie Wilson

Anna Marjorie Wilson was born on January 9, 1909, in Vancouver. (She was sometimes called “Bunny” or “Bunnie.”)

She attended college in Whitby, Ontario.

On August 1, 1930, in Vancouver, she married Hector McLean, who was born on August 1, 1903 in Belfast, Ireland (although his death certificate says that he was born in Scotland). Hector’s parents were Robert Charles McLean and Margaret Fry.

Wilson Practised Profession Her for Quarter Century,” Vancouver Province, February 15, 1927, page 2: “More than a quarter of a century a medical practitioner of this city, Dr. Thomas H. Wilson, 1142 Chilco street, passed away this morning at his residence after a brief illness. Born in Waterloo, near Kitchener, Ont., fifty-eight years ago, the deceased was a member of a pioneer family of that county. Graduating from the University of Manitoba Medical College in 1897, he came to Vancouver the following year. For a number of years he resided at the corner of Dunlevy avenue and Hastings street until the Patricia Hotel was constructed on the site of his residence. The deceased was a member of the Vancouver Medical Association and the Quilchena Golf Club. Only last Wednesday he attended the annual general meeting of the club, when he seemed to be in good health. His death was a shock to his many friends in the city. Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, Lloyd, a student at the University of British Columbia, and a daughter, Marjorie, at present attending college at Whitby, Ont. Funeral services will be held Friday at 8 p.m. at the T. Edwards Company’s chapel Rev. J.J. Ross and Rev. Dr. J.S. Henderson will officiate. Interment will be in Mountain View Cemetery.”
