Henry Tremlett was a wagon maker, grocer, and carpenter. He lived at 1020 Denman Street in 1917.
Family Background
Henry Tremlett was born in Wellington, Somerset on September 18, 1869. His parents were William and Elliza Tremlett.
Eliza Tremlett died on August 20, 1886.
Marriage to Eva Woodbury
In 1893, in Wellington, Henry married Eva Woodbury. She was born in Wellington in 1874. Her parents were William Woodbury (1843-1923) and Julia Pearce (1844-1920).
Julia Woodbury died on March 30, 1920.
William Woodbury died in Wellington on April 28, 1923.
Married Life in England and Travel to Canada
Henry and Eva lived in Wellington until 1911. In 1901, Henry worked as a coach builder.
At the time of the 1911 England and Wales census, Eva and her daughter, Frances, were living in Wellington by themselves. Henry and his son, Percy, had gone to Canada.
Henry arrived in Canada in April 1911. He and his son, Percy, sailed on the “Canada” from England to Halifax, Nova Scotia.
Eva arrived in Canada in September 1911. She and her daughter, Frances, sailed from England to Quebec City on the “Royal Edward.” She was going to join her husband in Vancouver.
In Vancouver
Henry first appeared in the Vancouver directories in 1913. He was living at 1592 East 37th Avenue and working as a grocer. (His son, William, often called “Percy,” was at the same address. Percy was in the 1912 directory, probably at the same address, although the directory said “37th Ave. at Commercial.” Henry did not appear in the directory in 1912.)

Brief Time in Nevada
In 1915, Henry went to Ely, Nevada. His immigration document said that he was a building contractor and that he was planning to live permanently in the United States.
Military Service
By 1916, Henry was back in Canada. On February 17, 1916, in Vancouver, he signed his attestation papers to serve with the Canadian Expeditionary Force during the First World War. (He gave his birth year as 1872, rather than his actual birth year of 1869.)
He was discharged from the Canadian military forces on January 14, 1919. The reason for his discharge was medical unfitness, largely related to an inguinal hernia.
Later Life
By 1922, Henry was working for the post office.
He retired about 1935.
In 1935, Henry and Eva went to England. They sailed from Southampton to New York City on November 6, 1935.
Henry died on March 25, 1959 in North Vancouver, British Columbia.
Eva died in Vancouver on March 8, 1970. She was buried in Mountain View Cemetery in Vancouver.
Henry and Eva had the following children.
William Percival Tremlett
William Percival Tremlett was born on June 30, 1894 in Wellington, Somerset.
He worked as a builder’s clerk.
On February 22, 1916, in Vancouver, he enlisted with the Canadian Expeditionary Force to serve during the First World War. He served in France with the Second Brigade of the Canadian Field Artillery.
He was discharged from the Canadian military forces on July 13, 1919, as part of the general demobilization at the end of the war. He found work as a clerk in the Customs Department.
He did not marry.
He died in Vancouver on April 27, 1921 as a result of myocarditis. Although his military discharge documents in 1919 had indicated that his health was good, a later note on his military file said that his death was “due to service.”
He was buried in Mountain View Cemetery in Vancouver.
Frances Olive Tremlett
Frances Olive Tremlett was born on July 6, 1899 in Wellington, Somerset.
She worked as a stenographer for the Standard Bank.
She did not marry.
She contracted tuberculosis, and she died in Kelowna, British Columbia on June 18, 1925. She was buried in Mountain View Cemetery in Vancouver.
