Harold Morton Henderson

In 1871 and 1881, Harold was living with his parents.

In 1883, he sailed to Canada, on his way to Victoria, British Columbia. He met Edith Horton while he was on the voyage. She was on her way to Calgary in the North-West Territories, because the dry climate there was supposed to help with her asthma.

(Edith’s background is unclear. Her full name appears to be Lilian Edith Effie Horton. Sometimes she was called Lilian E.E. Horton; mostly she was known as Edith Horton. She was born in England on November 19, possibly in London. Various sources say her birth year was somewhere from 1866 to 1870. The names of her parents are not available.)

After arriving in Canada, Edith travelled overland to Calgary, and Harold went on to British Columbia.

He later worked for the Canadian Pacific Railway in Donald and Revelstoke, British Columbia.

Harold and Edith kept in touch, and they were married in 1890, probably in Donald, British Columbia.

They stayed briefly in Donald, where Harold was a locomotive fireman with the C.P.R. Their first son, Cecil, was born in Revelstoke in December 1890.

By 1894, Harold and Edith had moved to Vancouver, where Harold was an assessment clerk with the City of Vancouver.
