Isadore carried on his clothing business during and after the First World War. However, Isadore’s and Maud’s marriage was not a success. In 1920, Maud filed a petition for judicial separation on the grounds of cruelty and misconduct. Isadore filed a counter-petition for nullity of the marriage. They agreed to live separately; Isadore was to pay temporary alimony to Maud until the court ordered a decree for permanent alimony.
