Edith Arminda Duffey and her daughter Nellie lived at 846 Denman Street from 1912 to 1915.

According to the Vancouver directories, Edith was the widow of Otis E. Duffey. Actually, Otis and Edith were divorced in 1907.

 

Early Life

Edith was born Edith Arminda Scoville on December 20, 1857 or 1858, in Hillsdale, Michigan. Her parents were Milo Scoville (1815-1896) and Milo’s second wife, Mary S. Routson (1831-1892).

 

Marriage to Otis Duffey

On June 28, 1883, in Livingston, Missouri, Edith married Otis E. Duffey. He was born in Illinois in September 1861.

By 1900, Otis and Edith were living in Boise, Idaho, along with their son, Charles, and their daughter, Nellie. Otis was a carpenter.

Otis and Edith were divorced in 1907. By 1910, Edith was operating a hotel in Seattle, Washington. Her daughter, Nellie, was living with her. Nellie was a music student.

 

To Vancouver

Edith and Nellie appeared in the Vancouver directories from 1912 to 1915. They were living at 846 Denman Street. Nellie was a vocalist and music teacher.

 

Back to Seattle

By 1920, Edith and Nellie were living in Seattle, along with Edith’s son, Charles.

In 1930, Edith was living in Seattle, along with Nellie and Nellie’s husband, Peter Holm. Edith was a Christian Science practitioner.

Edith died in Seattle on October 16, 1934.

Otis and Edith had the following children.

 

Charles Ralph Duffey

Charles Ralph Duffey was born in Kansas City, Missouri, on March 17, 1888.

In 1917 he was working as a stationary engineer in Thane, Alaska.

On May 3, 1918, in Seattle, Charles married Ethel Jane Woodcock. She was born in 1892. Her parents were Seth Woodcock and Lottie Bennett.

Ethel died in Olympia, Washington, on September 23, 1939.

In 1951, Charles registered a copyright entry of a speed, time and distance table for the Amazo Products Company, along with Friend Arthur Deahl (1899-1992).

In 1950, Mr. Deahl had applied for a registered United States trademark for Amazo. The company produced smokers’ accessories, including cigarette and cigar snuffers and ash trays; the company apparently did not produce tobacco products.

Charles died in December 1962 or January 1963, possibly in Washington State.

 

Nellie Eulalie Duffey

Nellie Eulalie Duffey was born in Missouri on April 24, 1894 (although some sources say her birth year was 1891 or 1892).

Nellie was a music student and vocalist.

On September 9, 1926, in Seattle, Nellie married Peter Cramer Holm. He was born on October 10, 1890, in Kobe, Japan; his parents were from Denmark. It appears that Peter’s father was H.C.L. Holm, who was a licenced pilot in Japan.

By 1914, it appears that Peter was married to a woman named Olga, who was born in the United States about 1895.

Peter immigrated to the United States in 1916. He served in the United States Navy during the First World War.

Peter and Olga were divorced before 1920. In 1920, Peter was working as a railway clerk in Seattle.

After their marriage in 1926, Peter and Nellie lived in Seattle.

In 1930 and 1940, Peter was a Seattle-based foreign freight agent for American Express. In 1930, Nellie was a cashier for an electric company.

Nellie died in San Mateo County, California, on September 3, 1951. She was buried in Golden Gate National Cemetery in San Bruno, California.

Peter died in Seattle on August 23, 1958. He was buried in Golden Gate National Cemetery in San Bruno.
