In 1871 and 1881 Wilfrid was living with his parents in Brewood.

By the late 1890s, he was living in British Columbia.

On June 10, 1899, in Vancouver, he married May Emily Parris, who was the widow of Edward Parris, a merchant who lived in Slocan City. May was born in Toronto, Ontario, about 1882. Her parents were John Moss and Elizabeth Emma Conover. May and Edward had been married on August 5, 1896.

Edward died in the fall of 1897, probably in Slocan City.

By 1898, May was operating the store in Slocan City, along with Alexander Des Brisay and Thomas McNish.

In 1900, Wilfrid was operating a grocery store in Grand Forks, British Columbia.

By 1902, he was in Vancouver, working as an accountant. He lived at 1020 Denman Street from 1902 to 1907 and at 1012 Denman Street in 1908.

It appears that he lived for a time in Victoria, British Columbia. He appeared on the list of objections to voter registrations in 1911.

In December 1910, Wilfrid became the registered owner of a lot on Denman Street. He obtained a mortgage from Herbert J.P. Walker for about $5,500, with seven per cent interest.

In 1911, Wilfrid and May were living on Keith Road in North Vancouver.

On August 30, 1913, Wilfrid and May separated, although they did not get divorced. Part of the settlement agreement said that May would indemnify Wilfrid for all of her debts and liabilities.

Wilfrid transferred the Denman Street property to May. He later offered tried to settle the mortgage, but Mr. Walker’s agents refused to accept the settlement. May agreed to pay off the mortgage with interest of eight per cent instead of seven per cent. In 1917 Mr. Walker sued Wilfrid, who issued a third-party notice to May, claiming that she should indemnify him for the liability on the mortgage.

The court concluded that the indemnity agreement did not apply to the mortgage debt, because it was Wilfrid’s own debt, not May’s debt.

Wilfrid continued to live in the Lower Mainland area of British Columbia. In the 1920s and 1930s he was the proprietor of the Boscobel Apartments in North Vancouver.

For a time May worked as a school teacher.

Wilfrid died in North Vancouver on February 9, 1937. He was buried in Ocean View Burial Park in Burnaby, British Columbia.

May died in Coquitlam, British Columbia, on June 15, 1954. She was buried in Mountain View Cemetery in Vancouver.

Wilfrid and May had two sons: Barnard Gordon Clive Lees (1901-1968) and Francis Cyril John Lees (1906-1986).

May and Edward Parris had a daughter: Beatrix Helena Moss Parris (1897-1984).
