Mrs. Ethel Lillian Wright lived at 1835 Barclay Street in 1911.

Ethel Lillian Wright was born Ethel Lillian Mckenna in January 1878 in Shelburne, Nova Scotia. (The family name is sometimes spelled “MacKenna.”)

Ethel’s father was John Lyle McKenna (1847-1939). He was the light keeper at Cape Roseway on McNutt’s Island, near Shelburne, from 1899 to 1920.

Ethel’s mother was Catherine Dedrick Etherington (1843-1919).

About 1897, Ethel moved to live in the United States.

On March 22, 1900, in Boston, Massachusetts, Ethel married William Frank Wright, who was working as a train conductor. He was born on October 11, 1870, in Bedeque, Prince Edward Island. His father was William Wright. His mother was Eliza Atkinson.

In the 1900 United States census, William and Ethel were living in Mrs. Josephine Learned’s rooming house in Boston.

William studied dentistry at Harvard University’s dental school.

By 1909, William was a dentist in Vancouver. His office was at number 5, 633 West Hastings Street in Vancouver. He was living at 1179 Granville Street.

At some point William Wright and Ethel were divorced. William later married Sarah Carse (1879-1950). William died in Vancouver on April 15, 1948.

The 1911 Canada census described Ethel as a widow. She was living with her daughter, Hester Eliza Wright. Also living with them was William Angus Keith, an architect who was described as Ethel’s brother.

William was usually called “Angus William Keith.” He was born in Westville, Nova Scotia, on February 24, 1879. He was the brother of Everett Keith, who was married to Ethel’s sister, Mary Isabelle Mac Kenna.

Ethel and Angus later married. During the 1930s, Angus was the proprietor of a real estate and insurance business in Port Coquitlam, British Columbia.

Angus died in New Westminster, British Columbia, on March 11, 1944. He was buried in Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Burnaby, British Columbia.

Ethel died in Vancouver on November 2, 1963. She was buried in Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Burnaby.

Ethel and William Frank Wright had a daughter.

 

Hester Eliza Wright

Hester Eliza Wright was born in Boston, Massachusetts on June 4, 1900.

In 1920 she was a clerk at the Vancouver General Hospital.

On July 19, 1922, in Vancouver, Hester married William Alexander Dobson, who was a physician and psychiatrist. He was born in Tatamagouche, Nova Scotia, on May 12, 1885. His father was Roderick Thomas Dobson. William’s mother was Cassie Gunn.

This marriage ended in divorce. William died in Vancouver on August 1, 1955. He was buried in Ocean View Burial Park in Burnaby, British Columbia.

Hester later married Ashworth Anderson, who was a real estate and financial broker. He was born on September 6, 1880, in Hastings, Ontario. His father was David Anderson. Ashworth’s mother was Agness Morgan.

Ashworth died in West Vancouver on October 20, 1959.

Hester died in Essondale, British Columbia, on June 22, 1978.
