Thomas Richard Draper

Thomas Richard Draper lived at 1224 Denman Street in 1914. He was an assistant librarian at the Carnegie Library.

Thomas Richard Draper was born on May 27, perhaps in 1849 or 1852, in Roxbourne, Hertfordshire, England. His father was Richard Draper; his mother was Miss Willan.

According to the 1901 and 1911 Canada census, Thomas Draper arrived in Canada in 1887 or 1888.

By 1901 he was living in New Westminster, where he was an accountant.

In 1910, he was an assistant librarian with the Carnegie Library at the corner of Hastings Street and Main Street.

In 1911, he was living at 2425 Point Grey Road in Vancouver

He lived at 1224 Denman Street in 1914.

He continued as the assistant librarian until he retired about 1924. He died in Vancouver on December 31, 1925, and he was buried in Mountain View Cemetery in Vancouver.

Thomas was married to Frances, but the details of his wife’s background are somewhat unclear. She may have been Frances Taylor.

Frances was born on December 5 in 1859 or 1860, on Jersey, in the Channel Islands. She died in Vancouver on February 14, 1918, and she was buried in Mountain View Cemetery in Vancouver. Her death certificate says that her father was Francis Draper (born in the Channel Islands), and that her mother was Hannah Burnett (born on the Isle of Wight). However, it appears that her father may actually have been Francis Taylor.

Frances Draper had a sister, Caroline, who also lived in Vancouver. (Caroline was also the informant on Thomas Richard Draper’s death certificate.) Caroline was born on the island of Jersey on November 19, 1847. Her father was Francis Taylor (born on the island of Jersey), and her mother was Mary Burnett (born on the Isle of Wight). Caroline was married to William Alexander Mcdonald (1860-1913). Caroline died in Vancouver on January 21, 1940.
