Frederick James Parks was a foreman for the Vancouver City parks system.

He lived at 847 Park Road in 1912 and 1913 and at 746 Gilford Street in 1914 and 1915.

 

Early Life

Frederick James Parks was born in Brighton, England on September 29, 1869. His parents were Isaac Parks and Hannah Wilson. Isaac Parks was a gas fitter and metal worker.

 

To Canada

Frederick travelled to Canada about 1889.

By 1891 he was living in the Cypress area of Manitoba, working as a farm labourer.

 

Marriage to Hilda Eggers

On July 27, 1898, in Winnipeg, Frederick married Hilda Eggers (sometimes spelled Eggertz or Eggerty). She was born in Iceland on May 14, 1873 (some sources say May 15, 1871).

Frederick and Hilda were in Hamiota, in southwestern Manitoba, when their first child, Frederick Charles Parks, was born in May 1899. He died about 10 weeks later in Brandon, Manitoba.

 

To Vancouver

By late 1900, Frederick and Hilda had moved to Vancouver. Their second child, William Henry Parks, was born in Vancouver on December 16, 1900.

Frederick first appeared in the Vancouver directories in 1900. He was living at 612 Pender Street, and he was working as a bartender.

He enlisted with the Canadian Expeditionary Force during the First World War.

 

Later Years

Frederick was a labourer and foreman for the City of Vancouver parks system, and he sometimes worked as a night watchman.

Hilda died in Vancouver on January 20, 1943. She was buried in Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Burnaby, British Columbia.

Frederick died in Vancouver on June 29, 1948. He was buried in Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Burnaby.

Frederick Charles Parks

Frederick Charles Parks (sometimes called “Charles Frederick Parks”) was born in Hamiota, Manitoba, on May 23, 1899.

He died in Brandon, Manitoba, on August 5, 1899.

 

William Henry Parks

William Henry Parks was born in Vancouver on December 16, 1900.

In 1920 he was living at home and working for Simmons, Ltd., which was a bedding manufacturing company.

By 1921 he was working as a bookkeeper for Hall Machine Works, which dealt in diesel logging engines and automatic cut-off saws.

By 1925 he was the secretary-treasurer of Hall Machine Works.

In 1926 he was a carpenter.

In 1927 he became the secretary-treasurer of F.C. Myers, which was a firm of hardware merchants.

On August 16, 1940, in Vancouver, he married Sabina Yvonne Svenciski, who was a film inspector.

Sabina was born in Vancouver on June 10, 1899. Her parents were Anthony (Anton) Michael Svenciski (1861-1943) and Johanna Uss (1873-1955). Anthony Svenciski was a miner who later became an employee of the City of Vancouver.

William worked with F.C. Myers until he retired about 1963.

William died in Vancouver on May 24, 1973.
