Norman Frederick Lee was an accountant. He lived at 1816 Alberni Street in 1913 and at 2060 Comox Street in 1919 and 1920.

 

Early Life

Norman Frederick Lee was born in July 1888, in Haydon Bridge, Northumberland, England. His parents were Christopher Lee and Annie Gillhespy.

From 1891 to 1911 he lived with his parents in Northumberland.

 

Arrival in Canada

Norman arrived in Vancouver about 1911, and he first appeared in the Vancouver directories in 1913. He was a clerk with the Bank of British North America, and he was living at 1816 Alberni Street.

On March 3, 1918, in Vancouver, Norman married Ethel Mary Flower, who was a school teacher. She was born on December 2, 1888, in Broadstairs, Thanet, Kent, England. Her parents were John Robert Flower (1859-1954) and Rachel Anne Weatherly (1867-1953).

In March 1918, Norman began working as an accountant with the federal Department of Inland Revenue. In 1919 he was an assistant inspector.

In 1928 he became the acting inspector of income tax.

In 1929 he became the permanent tax inspector.

In 1941 the federal tax inspectors also became inspectors of succession duties under the Succession Duties Act.

At the end of 1943, Norman announced plans to retire.

Norma Lee was born in British Columbia (probably in Vancouver) about 1920. (In the 1921 Canada census, she was “Norma Marjory Lee.” In the 1942 Vancouver directory, and in her father’s 1945 death notice, she was “Norma R. Lee.”)

In 1939 she was a student, living with her parents at 4475 Cartier Street.

She was serving with the Royal Canadian Air Force Women’s Division in 1945.
