William’s and Lillian’s marriage ended in divorce. On August 1, 1914, in Seattle, Lillian married Clinton Smith Atwood (1891-1964).

According to the 1921 Canada census, William was married to a woman named Lilian, who was born in England about 1893. According to the census, William and Lilian came to Canada in 1913.

However, other records indicate that William married Alice Edline Jones in Seattle on September 30, 1916.

Alice Edline Jones was born in Seattle, Washington, about 1892. Her parents were William Burton Jones (1856-1940) and Mary Ellen Coupe (1855-1934).

William first appeared in the Vancouver directories in 1918. He was a waiter at the Orpheum Café, which was at 762 Granville Street.

In 1920, William started to work at the Delmonico Café, at 704 Robson Street. Erwin “Cy” Switzer was the proprietor.

In December 1921, the Delmonico Café was in financial difficulty. It owed money for rent and for taxes. After the manager of the café was not able to pay the waiters, they all walked out.

By 1922, William was working at the Lodge Café, which was at 556 Seymour Street.

At the time of the 1930 United States census, William was living in Benton, Washington. He was a postal worker, and he was married to Edline.

William and Edline were still in Benton in 1944.
