Thomas Johnson was a marine engineer who lived at 1843 Robson Street in 1911 and 1912.

Thomas Johnson was born in Bergen, Norway, on October 13, 1880. His parents were John Johnson and Elsie Anderson.

On July 9, 1907, in Seattle, Washington, Thomas married Anna Sandahl. She was born in Trondheim, Norway, on January 25, 1875. Her parents were Peter Pierson and Carrie Erickson.

Thomas first appeared in the Vancouver directories in 1908. He was the engineer on the steamship “Superior.”

Thomas’s brother, Rasmus Andreas Johnson (1871-1953), was also in the tugboat industry in Vancouver.

Thomas lived at the following addresses in Vancouver from 1908 to 1919.

1908 and 1909 S.S. Superior (no street address under Vancouver names).
1910 and 1911 Employee of New England Fish Company, foot of Gore Street (possible connection)
1912 1843 Robson Street
1913 to 1919 2637 West Seventh Avenue (Thomas Johnson)

At the time of the 1911 Canada census, Thomas and Anna were living at 1843 Robson Street, along with their children Edward and Clara.

Thomas died on November 5, 1919, near Powell River, British Columbia. He was killed when he tried to jump between the tugboat St. Clair and the scow it was towing. He was buried in Mountain View Cemetery in Vancouver.

Anna did not re-marry. In 1921 she was living at 2637 West Seventh Avenue, along with her children, Edward, Clara and Henry.

Anna died in Vancouver on April 13, 1957. She was buried in Mountain View Cemetery in Vancouver.

Thomas and Anna had the following children.

 

Edward John Johnson

Edward John Johnson was born in Vancouver on September 30, 1907.

In the late 1930s he worked as a mariner with Pacific (Coyle) Navigation Company.

On January 3, 1938, in Vancouver, Edward married Jessie Annie White. She was born in Victoria, British Columbia, on October 13, 1907. Her parents were Thomas Henry White and Ada Rosena French.

Edward died in Vancouver on April 24, 1977. He was buried in Mountain View Cemetery in Vancouver.

Jessie died in New Westminster, British Columbia, on January 23, 1987.

Clara Alwilda Johnson

Clara Alwilda Johnson was born in Vancouver on September 21, 1910.

She worked as a stenographer for Sun Life Assurance Company.

On September 20, 1941, in Vancouver, she married Clifford Trevor James, who was a real estate and mortgage loan inspector with Boultbee, Sweet and Company. He was born in Regina, Saskatchewan, on February 20, 1908. His parents were Thomas Alfred James and Luella Irene Jane Nesbitt.

After they retired, Clifford and Clara lived for a time on Mayne Island.

Clara died in Vancouver on May 24, 1984.

Clifford later lived in Vancouver, where he died on December 8, 1988.

 

Henry Andrew Johnson

Henry Andrew Johnson was born in Vancouver on June 1, 1914.

He worked as a master mariner for the MacMillan, Bloedel forestry company.

He married Ann Mary Adams. In 1958 they were living at 2090 Balsam Street in Vancouver.
