Alfred died in Nanaimo, British Columbia, on May 30, 1969.

Gertrude died in North Vancouver, British Columbia, on December 1, 1975.

On September 19, 1941, in Victoria, British Columbia, he married Cora Merle Johnston, who worked for a paint company in Victoria. She was born in Victoria on December 25, 1921. Her parents were Everett Thomas Johnston and Hazel Lucy Bradshaw.

John died in Saanichton, British Columbia, on June 7, 1989.

Cora died in Gibsons, British Columbia, on September 10, 2017.

 

Edward Allan Sheffield

Edward Allan Sheffield was born in May 21, 1917 in Vancouver.

He worked as a civil engineer.

He married Audrey Emily Evirson.

He died in West Vancouver, British Columbia, on June 2, 1995.

Robert Alfred Philip Sheffield

Robert Alfred Philip Sheffield was born in British Columbia on October 31, 1922. He did not marry.

He served with the Royal Canadian Air Force during the Second World War. He was reported missing, and the military forces later presumed that he died on February 25, 1943.

Sheffield and Miss Gertrude Thomson were married by Rev. J.K. Unsworth, the pastor of the church. A wedding breakfast was tendered the happy couple and a few guests by Miss Winder and Miss Ramsden at their home, 2313 Alberta street. They were assisted by Mrs. Ramsden and Mrs. Anstey. Mr. Sheffield, who is organist of the church ad pianist of the Brotherhood orchestra, was presented with handsome gifts by the choir and the Brotherhood. “December 25, 1921 – September 10, 2017.

Born and raised in Victoria, Merle planned to go to University to become a teacher, but married instead and moved to West Vancouver in 1942 where she and her husband Jack raised their family. When their youngest child started school, Merle started volunteering at University Hill Preschool for handicapped children. As a result of her love for teaching, Merle completed her credentials doing night school at UBC. She went on to start the first preschool for handicapped children on the North Shore. When Jack retired, they moved to Salt Spring Island where she enjoyed visits from her grandchildren, was active in the library and at the Anglican Church. She moved to Gibsons to be closer to family in 2015, where she lived until her death.

She is predeceased by her son Allan in 1944, her husband Jack of 48 years in 1989, and her daughter Barbara in 2006. She is survived by daughters Kay Gass, Anne Titcomb, and Linda (Bob) Osmachenko; seven grandchildren, Arthur (Rayna), Sarah (Philippe), Kevin (Kirsten), Russell (Pauline), Kait (James), Ian, Jennifer (Martin); and 13 great-granchildren, Jaycee, Shaye, Kaya, Tessa, Wyatt, Dustin, Megan, Emma, Averie, Eric, Julia, Logan and Hunter.

Service will be held at St Batholomew’s Anglican Church, 659 North Road, Gibsons on Saturday, September 30 at 2:00 p.m. Light refreshments to follow in the church hall.

The family is very grateful and wishes to thank the Christenson Village staff for the care and kindness shown to our mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
