Arthur’s Public Service in Oak Bay

From 1919 to 1924, Arthur was a member of the Oak Bay municipal council.

From 1933 to 1940, he was an Oak Bay police commissioner.

Private and Professional Life

By 1921, Georgie had become ill. She was in an institution in New Westminster, British Columbia at the time of the 1921 Canada census. Arthur was living in Victoria with his sister, Ada, and her husband, Albert Coopman.

Arthur’s listings in the Victoria directories did not include Georgie again until 1935, although it is not clear when Eliza actually moved back to Victoria.

Arthur continued to work as a business reporter, including a period after 1933, when R.G. Dun merged with J.M. Bradstreet and Company to become Dun and Bradstreet.

Arthur retired from Dun and Bradstreet about 1945.

Arthur and Georgie were still listed together in the 1948 Victoria directory. However, by 1949, Arthur’s directory entry did not mention Georgie.

In 1950 Georgie was at the Stadacona Guest House in Victoria. She died there on August 10, 1950, and she was buried in Royal Oak Burial Park in Saanich, British Columbia.

(Ruth had been married before, to Malcolm Alexander Leslie Melville. That wedding was in Victoria on September 6, 1924. Malcolm died in Saanich, British Columbia on December 12, 1946.)

Arthur and Ruth lived in the Victoria area through the 1950s.

In 1957, they were at 1187 Hewlett Place in Oak Bay.
