Parkinson, Caroline Matilda (1865-1934)

Caroline Matilda Parkinson (née Seely) was the widow of Rev. John Rayner Sylvester Parkinson. She lived at 846 Denman Street in 1911.

Caroline Matilda Seely was born in Port Medway, Nova Scotia on November 5, 1864. Her father was Edwin Collins Seeley (1830-1881); her mother was Maria Mathilda Mitchell (1832-1878). Both parents lived most, if not all, of their lives in Chester, Nova Scotia.

On January 29, 1884, in Port Medway, Caroline married John R.S. Parkinson, a widower who was born in Elsworth, Great Britain, on April 29, 1847. He had first been married to Clara Darrow Rees (born about 1850, died September 10, 1882).

Caroline first appeared in the Vancouver directories in 1908. She was the proprietor of the Hillside Hall at 937 Burrard Street.

John Rayner Sylvester Parkinson was in England in 1911. It appears that he died in late 1911, in Middlesbrough district, in the North Riding of Yorkshire.

Caroline continued to live in Vancouver throughout the 1920s and early 1930s. She died in Vancouver on March 18, 1934.

John Rayner Sylvester Parkinson had five children.

Maria (Madge) Caroline Parkinson

Maria (Madge) Caroline Parkinson was born in Port Medway, Nova Scotia, in 1885. On March 7, 1912, in Vancouver, she married Thomas Andrews. He was born about 1886, in Litchfield, England. His father was Thomas Andrews; his mother was Edith Owen.

Dorothy Parkinson

Dorothy Parkinson was born in Londonderry, Nova Scotia, on December 1, 1886. On May 19, 1910, in Vancouver, she married John Edwards Powis. He died in Point Grey (later part of Vancouver) on November 30, 1924. Dorothy died in Essondale, British Columbia, on October 8, 1965.

Edward John Parkinson

Edward John Parkinson was born on May 8, 1890, in Nova Scotia. He did not marry. He died in Vancouver on March 1, 1962.

Mary Ellen Parkinson

Mary Ellen Parkinson was born on April 24, 1892. She did not marry. She died on August 16, 1957, in Essondale, British Columbia.

Mildred Alice Parkinson

Mildred Alice Parkinson was born on August 20, 1894, in Fredericton, New Brunswick. On December 26, 1923, in Vancouver, she married John Nicolas Barnwell Martin. He was born on September 20, 1876, in Ireland. His father was Robert John Martin; his mother was Sara Johnson Hodder.

John Nicholas Barnwell Martin died in Vancouver on July 16, 1953.

Mildred Alice Martin died in West Vancouver, British Columbia, on April 23, 1974.
