Clark, Ambrose (1883-1909)

Ambrose Clark was a carpenter and logger who lived at 1808 Nelson Street in 1908.

It appears that he was born in 1883 in Birkinhead, Cheshire, England, and that his parents were Ambrose and Elizabeth Clark.

In 1901, Ambrose Clark was an apprentice joiner, and was living in South Shields, Durham. Sometime later he came to Canada.

Ambrose Clark appeared in the Vancouver city directory in 1906.

Ambrose was rooming with George James Spencer (1861-1918), a contractor who lived at 569 Howe Street. Mr. Spencer had a general contracting business with Temple Frederick Sinclair (1853-1918).

By 1908, Ambrose was living at in Rico Christie Cao’s house at 1808 Nelson Street.

On December 31, 1908, Ambrose was working at Fraser’s logging camp at Magee in South Vancouver. A pile of logs slipped and fell on him. He was taken to Vancouver General Hospital, where he died on January 1, 1909. He was buried in Mountain View Cemetery in Vancouver.

The remains of the late Ambrose Clark, who was fatally injured last Thursday at Magee, were laid at rest yesterday in Mountain View cemetery. The funeral took place from Greene & Simpson’s parlors. Rev. G. H. Wilson officiated. A large number of friends followed the body to the grave and beautiful floral tributes testified to the esteem in which the deceased was held by all who knew him.”

In the Revision of Registrar of Voters that appeared in the Vancouver Province on April 10, 1909, page 22, Ambrose Clark’s name was on the list of voters who should no longer appear.
