Cable, Leonard Keynes (1884-1957)

Henderson’s Greater Vancouver City Directory, 1916, page 522.

 

Leonard Keynes Cable was an employee of the Vancouver Lawn Tennis Club for a short time. He lived at 940 Denman Street in 1916.

He was later an employee of Begg Motor Company and Victory Flour Mills.

 

Family Background

Leonard Keynes Cable was born in Greenwich, London, England on April 13, 1884.

His parents were George Hughes Cable (born 1844 at Charlton-Marshall, Dorset, England) and Matilda Bates (née Marshall), who was born about 1843 in Devonport, England.

Matilda had been married (possibly in 1861) to William Bates of the British Royal Navy.

After Mr. Bates died, Matilda married George Hughes Cable on August 10, 1876, in Bermondsey.

Leonard came to Canada about 1902. He was living in the Red Willow district of Strathcona, Alberta, in 1906.

Leonard arrived in Vancouver about 1913.

 

Marriage to Maude Fitz Henry

On August 31, 1914, in Vancouver, Leonard married Maude Josephine Fitz Henry. She was born on June 16, 1885 in Christchurch, New Zealand. Her parents were Edward Fitz Henry and Mary Conellin.

 

Later Life

Leonard died on February 25, 1957, in Vancouver. He was buried in Mountain View Cemetery in Vancouver.

Maude died in Vancouver on May 13, 1963. She was buried in Mountain View Cemetery in Vancouver.

Leonard and Maude had four children.

 

Leonard Fitz Henry Keynes Cable

Leonard Fitz Henry Keynes Cable was born on June 10, 1915, in Vancouver.

On February 21, 1935, in Whatcom County, Washington, he married Helen May McFarlane.

On April 22, 1971, in King County, Washington, Leonard married Frances Elizabeth Gilker. She was born in Campbellton, New Brunswick on April 6, 1911. Her parents were Charles Gilker and Christina Macdougall (or MacDougald).

Frances had married Jacob A. Reinertson in Calgary, Alberta in 1929. This marriage ended in divorce on November 30, 1945.

Kenneth Keynes Cable

Kenneth Keynes Cable may have been called “Kent.”

He served with the Royal Canadian Air Force during the Second World War.

He was married to Florence May Carley

By 1955, he was a post office clerk; he and his wife Florence were living on Dunbar Street in Vancouver.

He died in Abbotsford, British Columbia on May 10, 1997.

Dorothy Maude Cable

Dorothy Maude Cable was married on November 7, 1950 to Charles Randolph Widman.

Charles was born in Vancouver on Feb. 9, 1926. His parents were Adolf Widman (1883-1969) and Lillias Vincent (1892-1976).

Charles was a forest-industry consultant with Cooper-Widman Ltd. Stewart A. Cooper was the president of the company.

Gloria Shirley Cable

Gloria Shirley Cable was born in Vancouver on June 8, 1928.

She attended Magee High School in Vancouver.

She died on March 5, 1945, after becoming ill at school. She was buried in Mountain View Cemetery in Vancouver.

(1993-2002). His business ventures took him around the world many times. He was a Guest Lecturer at UBC in Economics and Forestry from 1952-1990. Charles was an avid golfer (Shaughnessy Golf Club) and enjoyed cruising on the Tradewinds III (Royal Vancouver Yacht Club) for many years. He was an active volunteer with the Kiwanis Club, WHO WHO, NAWLA, Junior Achievement groups, and Crescent Beach Swim Club. He enjoyed many years of involvement with the Young Presidents Organization (YPO) with his wife, Dorothy. A Memorial Service will be held at Christ Church Cathedral, 690 Burrard St., Vancouver, BC on Tuesday, December 3rd, 2002 at 3:00 p.m. Private family interment has taken place. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations be made in his memory to the BC Cancer Foundation or the UBC Development Office (Dept. of Economics.)”
