His first two children were born in Toronto, Ontario in 1878 and 1879.

He first appeared in the Vancouver directories in 1890. He was a bookkeeper, and he was living on Princess Street.

In 1912, Alice was involved in a lawsuit with J.C. Keith and others, dealing with a large portion of land in North Vancouver. She was successful, but she died on March 19, 1913, before she was able to collect on the lawsuit. She was buried in Mountain View Cemetery in Vancouver.

There may have been an appeal of the case, but the results of the appeal are currently not available.

Sometime after the First World War, Stanley was living on Denman Island in British Columbia.

By 1929, he was at the Provincial Home for Incurables in Vancouver (sometimes called the Vancouver Hospital Marpole Annex), which was at the northeast corner of Hudson Street and Marine Drive.

Yesterday afternoon she was discovered lying face downwards in the bedroom of her home at 1843 Alberni street. She was found by her son, Mr. F. James of Lynn Creek, North Vancouver, where she had evidently succumbed to an attack of heart disease. It is feared that the unfortunate lady had been dead some time, as she had not been seen by any of her neighbors since Tuesday afternoon. Accompanying Mr. James at the time of the tragic discovery was Mrs. Ganley [sic] of 844 Pender street west [sic], a friend of the deceased lady, who was to pay her a Good Friday call. [Includes further details of the legal dispute.] [Note: The friend may actually be Mrs. Alonzo James Gauley, who lived at 1844 Georgia Street.]

“North Vancouver, Jan. 13—The funeral of the late Duncan Cameron Scott took place from St. Andrew’s Church at 2 o’clock yesterday afternoon to Mountain View Cemetery. The services were conducted by the pastor, Rev. A.C. Muldrew, assisted by Rev. J.R. Hooper, rector of St. John’s Anglican church. The pall-bearers were G.W. Vancouver, mayor-elect of North Vancouver; ex-Mayor William McNeish, A.C. Dodds, E. Hooper, Fred James and T.H. Bain, all personal friends of the deceased. The floral tributes were numerous.

The late Mr. Scott was a native of the Highlands of Scotland, being a descendant of the well-known historic Cameron Clan. He was born in the Parish of Morven, Argyleshire. As a youth he took up engineering, and spent some time in Glasgow. He came to this country when quite a young man. He spent some time in California, Oregon and Washington and after making a visit to his native land he finally settled in British Columbia, and for the past nine years conducted a grocery business on the North Shore.

He leaves a wife, formerly Miss Alice James, to mourn his loss, and she has the sympathy of many friends.”
