Henri Louis Mauris was a waiter and caterer. In the Vancouver directories, he was listed at 1839 Morton Avenue in 1916 and at 1841 Morton Avenue in 1917. His wife, Dowley Beatrice Mauris, lived at 1841 Morton Avenue in 1918 and 1919.

Henri Louis Mauris was born in Paris, France, on December 2, 1881. His father was Jean Mauris. His mother was Wilhelmine Roser.

He travelled to Canada about 1910.

In the 1911 Canada census, Henri was boarding with George Fenton, who lived at 1657 Haro Street. (The 1911 Vancouver name directory showed George Fenton at 1657 Harris Street; the street listing had him, correctly, at 1657 Haro Street.)

Henri first appeared in the Vancouver directories in 1911.

On April 27, 1911, in Vancouver, Henri married Dowley Beatrice Sadler. She was born in Brentford, Middlesex, England in 1881. Her father was John Sadler (1849-1930). Her mother was Winifred Gibbs. The Sadler family arrived in Vancouver about 1910. (On October 29, 1910, Beatrice was a witness at the Vancouver marriage of her brother, John Bushnell Sadler to Violet Theresa Flore.)

In 1912 Henri was a waiter at the Carlton Café (172 West Cordova Street).

In 1914 he was a waiter at the Windsor Café (752 Granville Street).

In September 1915, in Vernon, British Columbia, Henri enlisted with the Canadian Expeditionary Force to serve during the First World War. His unit sailed to Europe in November 1915.

While he was in France in November 1916, he suffered gunshot wounds to his right leg and his head. He later received medical treatment in England, but he died at the London General Hospital on June 6, 1917. He was buried in Brookwood Military Cemetery in Surrey, England.

On November 27, 1922, in Vancouver, Beatrice married Alexander Geekie Morrison, who was a marine engineer. He was born on August 3, 1879, in Dundee, Scotland. His father was James Troup Morrison. His mother was Catherine Geekie.

Beatrice died on December 24, 1926. She was buried in Mountain View Cemetery in Vancouver.

Alexander died in Vancouver on April 27, 1957. He was buried in Ocean View Burial Park in Burnaby, British Columbia.

Henry Mauris and Dowley Beatrice Sadler had a son.

 

Robert Gaston Victor Mauris

Robert Gaston Victor Mauris (“Bob”) was born in Vancouver about 1915.

On August 31, 1940, in Burnaby, British Columbia, he married Catherine Ione Easthope, who was a hairdresser. She was born in Vancouver on January 23, 1919. Her father was George Easthope. Her mother was Elizabeth Naomi Tisdale.

In 1947, Bob was a clerk in British Columbia’s department of finance. He held several official positions in the southern Okanagan district, including deputy government agent, deputy water recorder, deputy land commissioner and deputy registrar of voters.

Bob was an amateur radio operator, and he was with the Royal Canadian Corps of Signals during the Second World War.

Catherine died in Burnaby on October 14, 1989.

Robert died on January 9, 2005. He was buried in Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Burnaby.
