Brand, Thomas Stewart (1880-1948)

Thomas Stewart Brand (often called T. Stewart Brand) was a salesman and broker. He lived at 2044 Comox Street from 1916 to 1922.

He was born in Gourock, Scotland, on November 3, 1880. His father was John Brand; his mother was Mary Winning.

On December 6, 1912, in Vancouver, he married Christina Adamson Alexander. She was born on December 10, 1888, in Kirkintilloch, Scotland. Her father was (1854-1931); her mother was Charlotte Stark (1861-1925).

By 1913, Stewart and Christina were living in an apartment at Florence Court, 1201 West Georgia Street. (From 1931, the building became known as the Banff Apartments. In 2014, it is still at the northwest corner of Georgia Street and Bute Street.) Stewart was working as a salesman for Evans, Coleman and Evans, a shipping and commission merchant business.

By 1916, Stewart and Christina had moved to 2044 Comox Street. Stewart was a department manager for Evans, Coleman and Evans.

In 1919, Stewart became a department manager for Dodwell and Company, which operated steamships in many parts of the world. [Dodwell & Co., Wikipedia article, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dodwell_%26_Co.].

By 1928, Stewart was a salmon broker. The family was living at 1629 West 29th Avenue in Vancouver.

Stewart continued to work as a broker until about 1946. He was living at 947 West 15th Avenue in Vancouver when he died on August 6, 1948.

Christina died in Vancouver on October 9, 1964.

 

Stewart and Christina had the following child.

 

Ian Stewart Brand

Ian Stewart Brand was born in Vancouver on March 11, 1915. He worked in the forest industry, including a period around 1940 with the H.R. MacMillan Export Company. He later lived in Nanaimo, British Columbia.

He married Marian Quayle.

He died in Nanaimo on December 11, 1992.
