Collinson, Frederick Angus (1878-1947)

Frederick Angus Collinson was a teamster. He lived at 994 Denman Street in 1904.

He was born in Elgin County, near Burlington, Ontario, on February 26, 1878. His father was Joseph Heugh Collinson (1850-1942). His mother was Elizabeth Mitchell (1850-1930).

After arriving in British Columbia in 1892, he settled in the Chilliwack area of British Columbia. For a time, he was in the lumbering business with his brother, Hugh Harris Collinson (1872-1938).

On February 11, 1904, in Vancouver, he married Elizabeth (“Lizzie”) Lucy Anna Wilson. She was born on May 21, 1879, in Chilliwack. Her father was John Wilson (1830-possibly 1885). Her mother was Anna Southcombe (1838-1915).

In 1906, Frederick and Lizzie moved to Chilliwack, where Frederick became a farmer. He was an active marksman, hunter and fisherman. He also played the violin.

Frederick died in Chilliwack on August 17, 1947. He was buried in the Anglican cemetery in Chilliwack.

Lizzie died in Chilliwack on December 3, 1954. She was buried in the Anglican cemetery in Chilliwack.

Frederick and Lizzie had the following children.

 

Ian Frederick Collinson

Ian Frederick Collinson was born in Vancouver on December 15, 1904. He worked for a time as a contractor.

On October 8, 1932, in New Westminster, British Columbia, Ian married Elizabeth Anne Henderson. She was born in Chilliwack, British Columbia about 1912. Her father was Richard Arthur Henderson (1877-1917). Her mother was Mary Dixon Pavey (1874-1956).

Ian died in Kelowna, British Columbia, on July 18, 1966.

Elizabeth died in Kelowna in on June 6, 1996.

 

Lorna Ruth Collinson

Lorna Ruth Collinson was born in Chilliwack, British Columbia, on May 12, 1908. She was sometimes called “Laura.”

On June 14, 1927, in Chilliwack, Lorna married James Goodman Grafton. He was born on December 13, 1900, in Moosomin, Saskatchewan. His father was William Alexander Grafton. His mother was Amelia Ellen Goodman.

In 1930, James and Lorna were living in San Diego, California.

In 1935, James applied to become a naturalized United States citizen.

In 1941, Lorna applied to become a naturalized United States citizen.

James died in Los Angeles, California on September 26, 1963.

Lorna lived for a time in Bellingham, Washington. She died on July 21, 1996.

 

Joseph Bruce Collinson

Joseph Bruce Collinson (usually called “Bruce) was born in Chilliwack on July 12, 1910.

On December 4, 1933, in Rutland, British Columbia, he married Myrtle Maude Thompson. She was born in Vancouver about 1911. Her father was George Thompson. Her mother was Estelle Germaine.

Bruce and Myrtle lived in Sullivan Bay, on Broughton Island in British Columbia. From 1945 to about 1957, they ran a seaplane harbour, fish camp, store and post office.

Myrtle died before 1999. Bruce died in Vancouver on August 9, 1999.

Survived by son Rod and his wife Glenda. 4 grandchildren, Tom, Barb, Scott, and Karen. 7 great-grandchildren. Predeceased by his loving wife Myrtle Maud Collinson. Cremation with ashes to be placed in the Sullivan Bay area.
