English Bay Natatorium

The English Bay Natatorium was a swimming facility at 1869 Beach Avenue in 1909.

Harry G. Koller (1864-1932) was a proprietor of the natatorium, along with Henry Dowse. (Harry Koller was also the first manager of the nearby Imperial Roller Skating Rink.)

The manager of the natatorium was William De Silva (who lived at 1859 Beach Avenue from 1904 to 1906, and at 1830 Pendrell Street from 1907 to 1909).

It is not clear how long the natatorium stayed in operation. In any case, a fire on September 29, 1914, destroyed the Imperial Roller Skating Rink, along with the car dealership next door. It is unlikely that the natatorium would have survived the fire.

This natatorium is unrelated to a much grander proposal that was never built. See Illustrated Vancouver; Vancouver’s unbuilt public natatorium and concert hall; http://illustratedvancouver.ca/post/164338348975/vancouvers-unbuilt-natatorium-ii.
