Carter, Cecil Henry (1868-1952)

Cecil Henry Carter was an employee of the Canadian Bank of Commerce. He lived at 1851 Comox Street from 1906 to 1911.

Cecil Henry Carter was born in Brentford, Middlesex, England on February 13, 1868. His father was Joseph Edward Carter, who was a managing clerk for a firm of solicitors; his mother was Sarah Louise (possibly Jenkins).

He came to British Columbia in 1889, from Twickenham, England. He worked at first with the Bank of British Columbia, which later became part of the Bank of Commerce.

On October 21, 1902, in New Westminster, British Columbia, he married Blanche Louse Millard. She was born in Victoria, British Columbia, on November 14, 1872. Her father was Charles Thomas Millard (1836-1916); her mother was Margaret Elizabeth Watson.

Cecil retired from banking in 1928 and joined Yorkshire Securities Ltd., until he retired again in 1948.

Cecil died in Vancouver on October 9, 1952. He was buried in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Burnaby, British Columbia.

Blanche died on March 2, 1960, in Vancouver. She was buried in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Burnaby, British Columbia.

Cecil and Blanche had the following children.

Margaret Claire Carter

Margaret Claire Carter was born in May 1903, probably in Alberta. She did not marry. She was living in Vancouver in 1952 and 1960.

Dorothy Gertrude Carter

Dorothy Gertrude Carter was born in British Columbia in August 1904. She did not marry. She was living in Vancouver in 1952 and 1960.

James Vaughan Carter

James Vaughan Carter was born in Vancouver in July 1906. On September 6, 1935, he married Doris Margaret Partington. She was born in Vancouver on July 16, 1912. Her father was Harold Rhodes Partington (1874-1946), who was a lawyer; her mother was Beatrice Margaret Buchan. (1883-1964).

Doris died in Vancouver on August 17, 1990.

Blanche Elizabeth Carter

Blanche Elizabeth Carter was born in British Columbia in December 1907. She married Charles Lewis Burwell Brown. He was born on June 23, 1895, in Harrison Hot Springs, British Columbia. His father was John Reitter Brown; his mother was Louella Beatrice Agassiz. Charles served as a lieutenant in the Canadian Expeditionary Force during the First World War.

Charles died in Victoria on May 31, 1990.

Evelyn Mabel Carter

Evelyn Mabel Carter appears to have been born after 1911, probably in Vancouver.

She married James Reitter Brown. He was born on January 5, 1902, in Vancouver. James was a brother of Charles Lewis Burwell Brown. His father was John Reitter Brown; his mother was Louella Beatrice Agassiz.

James died on February 11, 1990, in Vancouver.
