Stanley Mainwaring Johnson was a manager with the general contracting firm of Grant Brothers and Company. He lived at 1849 Robson Street in 1909. He later worked as an insurance agent.

Family Background

Stanley Mainwaring Johnson was born in Victoria, British Columbia, on October 9, 1880. (The spelling of the family name varied: sometimes it was hyphenated as “Mainwaring-Johnson”; at other times it was two separate words: “Mainwaring Johnson.”)

Stanley’s father was Edward Mainwaring Johnson (1843-1920), a realtor who arrived in Victoria in 1876, after spending time in New Zealand, California and Oregon.

While Edward was in New Zealand he worked as a real estate broker and agent.

In 1868 he married Helen Louise Davies. She was born in England in 1852.

In 1869 Edward applied for a patent for “improvements in machinery for gold-saving purposes.”
