Alfred McGowan Pease operated a transfer business. He lived at 1800 Nelson Street in 1914 and 1915 and at 1034 Denman Street in 1916 and 1917.

It appears that he was the brother of Franklin B. Pease, who lived at 1034 Denman Street in 1918 and 1919 and at 1040 Denman Street in 1920.

 

Early Life

Alfred McGowan Pease was born in Washington County, Pennsylvania, on April 24, 1851. His father was Boyd E. Pease (1821-1875). Alfred’s mother was Margaret Jane Black (1828-1909).

In 1853, the Pease family moved to Lee County, Iowa, where Boyd Pease was a farmer and county commissioner.

Alfred lived with his parents until after 1870.

 

Marriage to Amelia Isabella Bauder

On November 2, 1876, in Lee County, Iowa, Alfred married Amelia Isabella Bauder (often called “Isabella”). She was born in Primrose, Iowa, on May 21, 1858. Isabella’s father was Cyrenus C. Bauder (1817-1902) (often called “C.C. Bauder”).

C.C. Bauder was a dealer in agricultural implements, the proprietor of a harness-shop, an auctioneer, and justice of the peace. He was also an Iowa state representative and a county commissioner.

Isabella’s mother was Catherine Christy (1816-1900).

By 1887, Alfred was in Victoria, British Columbia. He was a clerk with Charles Russell and Company, and he was living on Douglas Street.

By 1891, Alfred was in Vancouver, working with the Canadian Pacific Railway.

In 1908, Alfred’s firm was called Pease, Scott, Bligh and Company. The members of the firm were: Alfred M. Pease, Cleveland M. Pease, David Scott, and Herbert Bligh.

In addition to his transportation business, Alfred also worked briefly as a carpenter and grocer.

Isabella died in Vancouver on April 13, 1910. She was buried in Mountain View Cemetery in Vancouver.

In 1910, Alfred attended the Pease family reunion at Maple Grove farm, near Mt. Hamill, Iowa. His daughter, Grace Lewis, probably went to the reunion as well, since her three children were there.

Alfred died in Vancouver on January 6, 1917. He was buried in Mountain View Cemetery in Vancouver.

Alfred and Isabella had the following children.

 

Grace Viola Pease

Grace Viola Lewis was born on September 17, 1877, in Iowa.

On June 8, 1898, in Vancouver, Grace married Arthur Henry Lewis, who was a dispatcher with the Canadian Pacific Railway. He was born in Mooretown, Ontario, on May 22, 1871. His father was John Lewis, who was a school teacher. His mother was Sarah Ellis.

For the first few years of their marriage, Arthur and Grace lived in the Kootenay district of British Columbia. They later lived in Vancouver.

In late 1907, Arthur went to Toronto, Ontario. He died in Toronto on December 6, 1907. He was buried in Mountain View Cemetery in Vancouver.

Grace continued to live in Vancouver until the early 1950s. She died in Vancouver on January 31, 1952. She was buried in Mountain View Cemetery in Vancouver.

William Pease

In the 1880 United States census, William Pease appeared in the household of Alfred Pease. He was born in Iowa about 1879.

No further information is available for him.

 

Cleveland Nathan McGowan Pease

Cleveland Nathan McGowan Pease was born in Victoria, British Columbia, on July 4, 1886.

On February 26, 1912, in Los Angeles, California, Cleveland married Grace Lothian. She was born on December 3, 1885, in Glengarry County, Ontario. Her father was Duncan S. Lothian (1853-1913). Her mother was Mary Ann Ferguson. (1863-1932).

In 1920, Cleveland was in the transfer business, along with David Scott, who had been in Alfred Pease’s firm in the earlier part of the century.

Grace died in Vancouver on August 6, 1963.

Cleveland died about 1971. He was buried in Mountain View Cemetery in Vancouver on May 25, 1971.

Cleveland and Grace had a son.

 

Frederick Lothian Pease

Frederick Lothian Pease was born in Vancouver on April 18, 1913.

He never married. He was a newspaper advertising agent.

He died in Vancouver on July 2, 1983.

He had a sister named Audrey Isabelle Stewart.

 

Lottie Elizabeth Peasein

Lottie Elizabeth Pease was born on Orcas Island, Washington, on December 24, 1887.

On November 5, 1924, in New York City, Lottie married Perez (“Perry”) Dill Martin. He was born in Nova Scotia on September 14, 1887. His father was Thomas Marsden Martin (1846-1918). Perez’s mother was Mary Dill (born 1857).

It appears that Perez was living in Vancouver in 1911.

In 1938, Perez and Lottie travelled to Boston, Massachusetts.

Perez died in Los Angeles, California, on March 23, 1959. He was buried in Mountain View Cemetery in Vancouver.

Lottie died in Vancouver on May 31, 1971. She was buried in Mountain View Cemetery in Vancouver.

 

Raymond S. Pease

Alfred McGowan Pease had a brother named Raymond S. Pease.
