Fenner, Joseph William (1877-1953)

Joseph William Fenner was a manufacturer’s agent and shipper. He lived at 751 Denman Street in 1916, 1871 Georgia Street in 1917 and 1918, and 1819 Robson Street from 1921 to 1935.

Joseph was born in West Derby, Lancashire, England, on May 21, 1877. His father was Thomas D’Orr Fenner. His mother was Rachael Joseph.

In June quarter, 1902, in West Derby, Joseph married Bertha Hogg. She was born in West Derby on July 1, 1875. Her father was Henry Hogg (1842-1922). Her mother was Julia Delaney.

Joseph first appeared in the Vancouver directory in 1914. He was living in West Vancouver. He had a manufacturer’s agent business with A. Allan Humphreys.

He lived at the following addresses in Vancouver:

1921 to 1935 1819 Robson Street
1936 to 1938 1961 ½ Georgia Street
1939 to 1953 3667 West 15th Avenue

 

In 1916, he was a shipper with Charles Gardner Johnson and Company.

In the early 1920s he was a boatman with Harbor Towing Company. Later he worked for the Empire Shipping Company. He worked until 1953 as a supercargo, which is an officer on a merchant ship who has charge of the cargo and its sale and purchase.

Joseph died in Vancouver on August 16, 1953.

Bertha died in Vancouver on April 2, 1968.

 

Joseph and Bertha had the following children.

 

Thomas D’Orr Fenner

Thomas D’Orr Fenner was born in Liverpool, England on September 26, 1903. He married Florence Mary Tardif. She was born in Vancouver on August 20, 1904. Her father was Peter Daniel Tardif (1867-1952). Her mother was Mary Louise Lebreque (1874-1970).

Florence died in North Saanich, British Columbia, on July 26, 1975.

Thomas died in Victoria, British Columbia, on August 14, 1977.

 

Josephine May Fenner

Josephine May Fenner was born in Montreal, Quebec. She worked for a time as a stenographer.

On June 30, 1934, in Vancouver, she married Joseph Gilbert D’Aoust, who was a mechanical engineer. He was born in Vancouver on June 14, 1905. His father was Joseph Eugene D’Aoust. His mother was Anita Usachoff (or Asachoff, or Oosachoff).

Joseph and Josephine lived for a time in Powell River, British Columbia.

Joseph died in Vancouver on February 25, 1958.

In 1968 and 1977, Josephine was living in Vancouver.

Joseph and Josephine had two children. It appears that one child was Brian G. D’Aoust, who married Susan Saxton on September 12, 1959, in Vancouver. Susan’s parents were George Donald Saxton and Dorothy Emeline Pound.
