Bunt, Richard Edward (1858-1918)

Richard Edward Bunt was a canneryman. He lived at 1938 Beach Avenue in 1905.

 

Early Life

Richard Edward Bunt was born on August 24, 1858, in Windsor, Ontario. His parents were Francis W. Bunt and Mary McKenzie. (In some sources, Richard appears as “Edward.”)

On August 24, 1887, in Brandon, Manitoba, Richard married Mary (“Minnie”) McKenzie. She was born on November 24, 1860, in Listowel, Ontario. Her parents were John McKenzie and Catherine Munro.

 

To British Columbia

Richard and Mary appeared in the 1901 Canada census, living in Vancouver with their children. However, Richard was not in the Vancouver directories until 1905.

By 1911, Richard, Mary (called “Minnie”), and their children, were living in Nanaimo, British Columbia.

Minnie died in Victoria, British Columbia, on October 20, 1915. She was buried in Ross Bay Cemetery in Victoria.

Richard died on December 23, 1918, in Victoria British Columbia. He was buried in Ross Bay Cemetery in Victoria.

 

Richard and Mary (“Minnie”) had the following children.

 

Roxie (Roxanne or Rachel) Clare Bunt

Roxie (Roxanne or Rachel) Clare Bunt was born in the rural municipality of Wallace, Manitoba, on June 8, 1889.

She did not marry. She died in San Francisco, California on April 18, 1938.

 

Gordon Douglas Bunt

Gordon Douglas Bunt was born in Virden, Manitoba on June 3, 1893. On May 3, 1920, in Vancouver, he married Hilda Southwell, the eldest daughter of George Henry Southwell and Jane Hunter.

Gordon died at sea on October 15, 1941.

Hilda later married Rueben Fitz Randolph. He was born on June 3, 1880.

Reuben died on September 3, 1956, in Monterey County, California.

Hilda died on August 1, 1961, in Santa Clara County, California.
