Thomas Marcus McAuliffe was a steward or porter with the Vancouver Club. He lived at 750 Denman Street from 1906 to 1926.

Early Life

Thomas Marcus McAuliffe was born in Essex, England, on July 27, 1877. His parents were Thomas George McAuliffe and Martha Beach.

 

To Vancouver

Thomas travelled to Canada about 1893.

He first appeared in the Vancouver directories in 1898. He was a waiter, and he was living at 337 Carrall Street.

From 1899 to the early 1920s he was a porter or steward with the Vancouver Club.

On February 20, 1904, in Vancouver, Thomas married Margaret McLennan Morgan. She was born in Bally Castle, Antrim, Ireland, on February 8, 1881. Her parents were Francis Morgan and Christine McEwen (or McKeowan).

Thomas entered his fox terriers in the Vancouver dog show in 1908.

In the mid-1920s he worked as a miner, appraiser, and carpenter.

In most years from the late 1920s to the 1940s, Thomas did not appear in the Vancouver directories.

During the late 1920s and the 1930s, it appears that Margaret managed the Wigwam Inn on Indian Arm, north of Vancouver, until she retired in 1941.

In 1942 and 1943, Thomas was a waiter at the Wonder Lunch, which was at 224 Carrall Street.

From 1942 to 1951, Margaret was a housekeeper at the Vancouver Club. (She was also living at the Vancouver Club, 915 West Hastings Street.)

In 1943, Thomas was living in the Central Hotel at 42 East Cordova Street.

Thomas died in Vancouver on March 8, 1948. After becoming very intoxicated, he was walking near Cordova Street and Abbott Street when a bus struck him. He was buried in Ocean View Burial Park in Burnaby, British Columbia.

Margaret died in Vancouver on March 14, 1959. She was buried in Ocean View Burial Park in Burnaby.

Thomas and Margaret had the following children.

 

Marcus McAuliffe

Marcus M. McAuliffe was born in Vancouver on June 17, 1906.

In 1921 he received an award for “regularity of attendance” as a division seven student at Lord Roberts School.

In 1955, Marcus was living with his wife, Peggy, at number 105, 1531 Davie Street. He was working as a seaman.

Marcus died in Vancouver on April 13, 1996.

 

Francis Edgar McAuliffe

Francis Edgar McAuliffe was born in Vancouver on June 8, 1908.

He never married.

In the 1950s and 1960s he worked as a grain sampler and elevator-man in Prince Rupert, British Columbia.

He died in Prince Rupert, British Columbia, on January 21, 1967. He was buried in Fairview Cemetery in Prince Rupert.
