Adams, George Williamson (1861-1922)

George Williamson Adams was a bookkeeper and commercial traveller. He lived at 1120 Denman Street from 1903 to 1916.

 

Early Life

George Williamson Adams was born in Aberdeen, Scotland, on April 12, 1861. His parents were David Adams and Mary Williamson; David and Mary were married in Aberdeen on June 30, 1854.

By 1887, George had moved to Canada, where he married Elizabeth Agnes Steele. She was born in Quebec on March 14, 1860.

Elizabeth’s parents were George Steele and Annie Allan Veitch. Annie was born in Scotland on September 1, 1838; she died in Vancouver on January 18, 1909.

To Vancouver

In 1902, George and Elizabeth moved to Vancouver. They were living at 1250 Melville Street; George was a commercial traveller for the Hudson’s Bay Company from 1902 to about 1905.

By 1903, George and Elizabeth had moved to 1120 Denman Street in Vancouver, where they stayed until about 1916.

In 1906, George began to work as a commercial traveller for J. Leckie and Company, a Vancouver company that sold fishing supplies and later became a well-known manufacturer of boots and shoes.

In 1917, George and Elizabeth moved to 3448 West First Avenue in Vancouver. They were still living there when George died on December 9, 1922. He was buried in Mountain View Cemetery in Vancouver.

In the fall of 1923, Elizabeth and her sister, Marion Steele (also known as Maynie), sailed from Montreal to Glasgow, Scotland. Their destination was 12 East Mayfield in Edinburgh, Scotland.

George Gordon Adams

George Gordon Adams was born in Montreal, Quebec on February 13, 1887.

In 1901, he was living with his parents in Victoria, British Columbia.

He died in Victoria on May 16, 1902. He was buried in Mountain View Cemetery in Vancouver.
