Angus, Richard (1870-1950)

Richard Angus was a manager with the B.C. Cooperage and Jute Company, which was associated with the B.C. Sugar Refining Company. He was later involved in the brewery business. He lived at 1919 Beach Avenue from about 1898 to 1904.

From about 1905, he lived in Victoria, British Columbia, where he was a representative for the B.C. Sugar Refining Company. He later became a merchant for automobile parts.

Richard was born on August 24, 1870, in Barton-upon-Irwell, near Eccles, Lancashire, England. His father was James Angus (1833-1903); his mother was Mary Fairweather (1839-1925). Several members of his family were prominent in Vancouver business and society circles. His sister, Mary Isabella Angus, married Benjamin Tingley Rogers, who was the head of the B.C. Sugar Refining Company.

On August 24, 1912, in Victoria, Richard married Elizabeth Heaney. She was born on December 3, 1884 in Portadown, County Armagh, Ireland. Her father was William Heaney; her mother was Mary Jane Wilson.

Richard died in Victoria on September 13, 1950. He was buried in Ross Bay Cemetery in Victoria.

Elizabeth died in Oak Bay, Victoria on July 14, 1967. She was buried in Ross Bay Cemetery in Victoria.

Richard and Elizabeth had eight children: Richard (Rick), David, Mary, Catherine, Ian , Forrest (Forrie), Elizabeth and Alexander (Sacha), and over 40 grandchildren.
