George Simon Mason was a watchmaker and jeweller who lived at 1860 Barclay Street from 1903 to 1907.

He was born on August 5, 1864 in Clifton, Prince Edward Island. His father was George Mason (1822-1897); his mother was Sophia Mutch (1831-1878).

He came to Vancouver in February 1888, and shortly afterwards started a partnership with Walter Henry Grassie. Later, he was a partner with Axel Peterson, and eventually started a firm of his own.

He married Irene May Baker. She was born on May 4, 1870 in Summerside, Prince Edward Island. Her father was John F. Baker (born about 1831 in Prince Edward Island); her mother was Sarah W. Caledon (born about 1832 in Prince Edward Island).

By 1914, he was living on West Boulevard in Kerrisdale, (near 39 Avenue).

George died on July 6, 1931, in Vancouver. He was buried in Mountain View Cemetery in Vancouver.

Irene died in Vancouver on December 8, 1948. She was buried in Mountain View Cemetery in Vancouver.

George and Irene had the following children.

George Louis Mason

George Louis Mason (often called Louis), was born on July 24, 1897, in Vancouver. For a time he was a florist. He served with the Canadian Expeditionary Force during the First World War.

He married Donalda Florence McLean. She was born about 1915.

George Louis Mason died in Vancouver on February 19, 1981.

Donalda died in Vancouver on September 21, 1995.

Reginald Baker Mason

Reginald Baker Mason was born in British Columbia, probably in Vancouver, on September 17, 1904. As early as 1924, he began travelling to the United States.

On October 13, 1928, in Oakland, California, he married Margaret Patricia Ingersoll. She was born in Washington State about 1906. Her father was Edgar L. Ingersoll, a physician who practiced in Washington State. Margaret’s mother was Margaret Thompson, who was born in Canada. Edgar and Margaret were apparently divorced.

In 1939, Reginald became a naturalized United States citizen.

In 1940, George and Margaret were living in Los Angeles, California. George was a stock broker; Margaret she was a typist for the federal government.

Reginald died in Los Angeles on June 3, 1965.

“Miss Ingersoll Passed Through Pendleton En Route to Spokane. A victim of the Pueblo wreck of last Sunday passed through this city this morning en route Spokane – Miss Mable Ingersoll, step-daughter of Dr. E.L. Ingersoll, who accompanied her, with other members of the family. The Ingersolls have until quite recently been residents of Pueblo, and Dr. Ingersoll spent a portion of the summer in Spokane, prospecting for the location which he finally decided to make in that city. Miss Ingersoll, while badly durt and only able to walk with crutches, is really not in a dangerous condition, though her knee was broken and skull fractured. She was fortunate in having immediate and skillful medical and surgical attendance, and being very robust and in the best of health, the journey has tired her but little, as her friends and step-father have done everything possible to make the journey easy.”
