Further Life in Vancouver

In 1905 and 1906, Frederick was living at 2006 Beach Avenue in Vancouver.

In 1906, he wrote to the Vancouver World, proposing that Vancouver should adopt Wellington, New Zealand’s system of taxing only land and not improvements on the land. There is no sign of a positive response from the Vancouver city council.

Vancouver Daily World, February 3, 1906, page 8, columns 5-6.

Vancouver Daily World, February 3, 1906, page 8, columns 5-6.

Frederick did not appear in the Vancouver directories from 1907 to 1921.

In 1909, he travelled to England.

According to newspaper articles in the 1950s and early 1960s, Frederick may have been the manager or otherwise associated with the Sechelt Hotel in Sechelt, British Columbia during the 1920s. However, the British Columbia directories did not show any listing for Frederick in Sechelt. The manager of the Sechelt Hotel during that time was Herbert Whitaker.

Frederick re-appeared in the Vancouver directories in 1922. He was living on Lonsdale Avenue in North Vancouver.

In 1922, Frederick and Sybil Tireman (probably Frederick’s sister) applied for the rights to find coal, natural gas and oil in parts of West Vancouver and North Vancouver. The results of their searches are not available.

During the 1920s, Frederick worked as an accountant for a variety of businesses. Throughout the 1930s and early 1940s he was with the Terminal City Club. By 1947 he was with Norman G. Cull, who was an optometrist at 785 West Georgia Street. In 1948 Frederick was a bookkeeper with the Ritz Apartment Hotel. He was retired by the 1950s.

Jessie in England

From the 1920s onward, there is no sign of Frederick’s wife, Jessie. It appears that they were separated, although there is no indication that they were divorced.

In 1930, Jessie appeared on the list of voters in Chertsey, Surrey, England. She was living at the vicarage with Edmund Henry W. Leachman, who appears to be Jessie’s brother.
