Howard Frederick Roden was an insurance company manager. He lived at 1856 Barclay Street from 1915 to 1918.

The 1916 directory also listed Edward F. Roden, who was an insurance company manager at 1856 Barclay Street in 1916.

 

Family Background

Howard Frederick Roden was born in Warwickshire, England, on January 20, 1883. His parents were George Roden and Clare Elizabeth Revill.

George Roden moved his family to Canada about 1895, and began working as a jeweler with Roden Brothers in Toronto, Ontario.

Clare Roden died in Toronto on January 21, 1925. She was buried in Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Toronto.

George was invited to a banquet for veteran jewelers in 1927, although he was not able to attend.

George Roden appears to have died sometime after 1927.

 

Howard Frederick Roden: Marriage, Vancouver, Montreal, and Victoria

In 1901, Howard Roden was living with his parents in Toronto.

On August 14, 1907, in Toronto, Howard married Edna Gertrude Williams. She was born in Dunchurch, Ontario, in October 1887. Her parents were Edward Williams and Elizabeth Bates.

By 1910, Howard was in Vancouver. He was living at 1183 Bute Street, and working as a clerk for Ceperley Rounsefell and Company.

Howard later married Lillian Mary Palmer.

In 1949, Howard was with the Commercial Union Assurance Company in Montreal.

Howard retired about 1945. By 1947, he and Lillian were living in Victoria, British Columbia.

Howard and Lillian continued to live in Victoria through the 1950s and into the mid-1960s.

Howard died in Victoria on March 9, 1965.

In February 1966, the government of British Columbia refunded an overpayment of succession duties on Howard’s estate.

Lillian died in Montreal on November 2, 1971. She was buried in Mount Royal Cemetery in Montreal.

Phyllis died between 1971 and 2005.
