Henry Guy Vickers was a building contractor. He lived at 1180 Denman Street in 1915.

Henry Guy Vickers was born in Nottingham, England, in 1886. His father was John Henry Vickers (1859-1932), who was a building contractor in England and in Vancouver. Henry’s mother was Adeliza Morrow (1855-1915).

Several family members moved to Canada in 1908. By 1911, the Vickers family was living at 361 West Seventh Avenue in Vancouver.

On September 1, 1914, in Burnaby, British Columbia, Henry married Louise Gertrude Murphy. She was born in Vancouver about 1892. Her father was Joshua Rodgington Murphy (1861-1920). Her mother was Elizabeth Ann Dolby (1871-1956).

Henry died in Vancouver on April 20, 1917. He was buried in Mountain View Cemetery in Vancouver.

Gertrude later lived in England. In 1947, in Worcester, England, she married Percy Thomas Oscar Boult (1888-1953). (It appears that Gertrude was known as “Mrs. Boult” for some time before the marriage.)

Gertrude died in Oswestry, Shropshire, England, in 1963.

Henry and Louise had a son.

John Henry Vickers

John Vickers was born in Vancouver about 1915. Sometime after his father died in 1917, John and his mother went to live in Birmingham, England.

John went to Solihull School in England. He joined the Royal Air Force about 1932.

In July 1939, in Hull, England, John married Peggy Jeffrey. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Jeffrey, of Hull.

John went to France at the beginning of the Second World War. While serving as an observer on a British reconnaissance bomber over Germany, he was seriously wounded. He continued to navigate the bomber and helped the pilot to land safely in French territory.

While John was in hospital for his wounds, he received the Medaile Militaire from the French government. He died on October 5, 1939, and he was buried in Choloy War Cemetery in Meurthe-et-Moselle, France.
