Kirkup, Sidney John (1881-1938)

Sidney John Kirkup was an accountant. He lived at 1875 Georgia Street from 1910 to 1913.

 

Early Life

Sidney John Kirkup was born on January 20, 1881, in Cambridge, England. His parents were James Kirkup and Sarah Vale.

 

Marriage to Ada Baker

In March quarter, 1907, in Cambridge district, Sidney married Ada Evelyn Baker. She was born in Cambridge on July 30, 1880 (although one source says 1885). Her parents were Edward Baker and Susan Loveday.

 

To Vancouver

About 1907, Sidney and Ada came to Vancouver. By 1908, Sidney was rooming with John Campbell Ross, an accountant with the Union Bank of Canada, and who lived at 1934 Barclay Street. Sidney was a clerk with the Canadian Pacific Railway’s Vancouver freight office.

The Kirkups lived at the following addresses in Vancouver.

1916 to 1933 625 Keefer Street
1934 to 1938 1631 Robson Street

 

Sidney died in Vancouver on August 25, 1938.

Ada died in Vancouver on May 18, 1969.

Sidney and Ada had the following children.

 

Unnamed Baby Kirkup

An unnamed boy was born in Vancouver on January 28, 1910. He died on January 31, 1910. He was buried in Mountain View Cemetery in Vancouver.

Marjorie Kirkup

Marjorie Kirkup was born in Vancouver on August 12, 1911.

On August 29, 1936, she married Robert McLaren Menzies. He was a tile setter, who was born on April 18, 1905, in Vancouver. His parents were Edmond Menzies and Isobel McCurdy. Robert had been married on September 26, 1925, to Mathilda Marie Prinster, but that marriage ended in divorce.

Robert died in Vancouver on May 4, 1940. Marjorie later married Eric Richard Sidney Ramsden, who was an editor with Pacific Press. He was born on October 16, 1908, in Nelson, British Columbia. His parents were Richard Vincent Ramsden and Beatrice Hawker. Richard had been married on Trail, British Columbia on October 1, 1931, to Dorothy Ellis Pittaway. Dorothy died in Vancouver on March 21, 1961.

Eric died on March 4, 1966, in Vancouver.

Marjorie died in Vancouver on September 29, 1972.

 

Mary Kirkup

Mary Kirkup was born in Vancouver on August 12, 1911. She did not marry. She was a store clerk. She died in Vancouver on March 15, 1962.
