Charles Edward Keefer was the manager of Vanstone Heating and Plumbing Company Limited. He lived at 1086 Denman Street in 1909.

Family Background

Charles Edward Keefer was born in Amaranth, Wellington County, Ontario on May 5, 1871. (He was sometimes called William Charles Edward Keefer.) His parents were John Gilbert Keefer (1839-1928) and Sarah Bathsheba Mole (1845-1921).

The Keefer family arrived in British Columbia in the late 1880s. John Keefer was a farmer for much of that time.

 

Marriage to Marion Herald

On June 20, 1907, in Vancouver, Charles married Marion Ogilvie Herald. She was born in Dundas, Ontario on March 18, 1884. Her parents were William Ogilvie Herald (1853-1930) and Mary Elizabeth Atkinson (1862-1944).

Charles was a plumber throughout his working life. He died in Vancouver on January 8, 1960.

Marion died in Vancouver on February 24, 1982.

 

Charles and Marion had the following children.

 

Audrey Jean Keefer

Audrey Jean Keefer was born about 1909, probably in Vancouver.

In April 1941, she became engaged to Eric Harold Tull, who was with the Royal Canadian Air Force.

 

Eric Tull’s Family

Eric was born in Saskatchewan on March 6, 1910. His parents were Frederick William Tull and Ethel Doles. Frederick Tull was the city clerk in Courtenay, British Columbia. He was a bank clerk in Saskatchewan when he was drafted to serve in the Canadian Expeditionary Force during the First World War. He served in Canada, England and France, until his was discharged on September 6, 1919, during the demobilization at the end of the war. By 1921, the Tull family was living in Courtenay.

About 1951, Frederick and Ethel moved to Saanich, near Victoria, British Columbia. Ethel died in Victoria on August 11, 1957.

Frederick later went to live in London, Ontario with Eric and Audrey.

 

Eric’s Career

Eric Tull was an excellent student. He received scholarships and later became a university professor.

Audrey and Eric were married in Vancouver on April 3, 1943.

In 1945, Eric and Audrey were living in Courtenay.

Marion Jean Keefer was born in Vancouver on December 1, 1909.

She worked as an accountant.

She never married.

She died in Vancouver on January 1, 1996.

 

Kenneth Charles Keefer

Kenneth Charles Keefer was born in Vancouver on July 24, 1914.

On May 29, 1937, in Vancouver, he married Norma Allison Brearey, who was a stenographer. She was born in Calgary, Alberta about 1918. Her parents were John Renshaw Brearey and Nellie Annie Bligh. This marriage ended in divorce in Vancouver on September 28, 1942.

Kenneth later married Margaret Catherine Dedrick. She was born in Vancouver on June 21, 1914.

Kenneth was an assistant assessor for the City of Penticton, British Columbia. He died in Penticton on February 16, 1965. He was buried in Lakeview Cemetery in Penticton.

Margaret later married Berne Clayton Pickering, who was a fruit inspector. He was born in Armstrong, British Columbia on January 13, 1911. His father was Thomas Pickering.

Margaret died in Westbank, British Columbia on May 6, 1994.

Berne died in Westbank on May 25, 1994.

 

Gilllis Herald Keefer

Gilllis Herald Keefer was born in Vancouver on April 12, 1919. (He was often called “G. Herald Keefer” or “Herald Keefer.”)

He became an organist, composer and organ builder.

In 1974, Herald was living in the Surrey-White Rock electoral district. Dennis Connorton worked with him on many organ-building projects.
