He first appeared in the Victoria directories in 1894. He was living in the James Bay district and he was an assistant statistician with the Department of Agriculture.

In 1896, the Department of Agriculture’s annual report included Edward’s note on the apple fruit miner, an insect that was causing damage to the local fruit crops.

On April 24, 1901, in Victoria, Edward married Edna Theophila Green. She was born on March 1, 1873, in Lambeth, London, England. Her parents were Alexander Alfred Green (1834-1891) and Theophila Turner Rainer (1840-1905).

Alexander Alfred Green (1834-1891) was part of a private banking firm in Victoria called Garesche, Green and Company. Further information on the Green family appears on the page for Alexander Rainer Green, an accountant and bank manager who lived at 761 Denman Street from 1907 to 1915.

In 1905, Edward was the managing director of the Cariboo Trading Company in 150 Mile House, British Columbia.

Throughout much of his time in Vancouver, Edward was involved in mining development. In 1925 and 1926, he was an inspector for the Vancouver Harbour Board. He was more or less retired by about 1928, although he continued to have some business interests for the next few years.

Edward died in West Vancouver, British Columbia on December 16, 1931. He was buried in Ross Bay Cemetery in Victoria, British Columbia.

Jocelyn Edna Carew-Gibson was born in Victoria on 1906. She was often called “Joy.”

She studied nursing and served with the Canadian Army Medical Corp Nursing Sisters during the Second World War.

After the war she was in the physiotherapy department of Lions Gate Hospital in North Vancouver.

She did not marry.

She died on April 16, 1994. She was buried in Ross Bay Cemetery in Victoria, British Columbia.

John Beaumont Carew-Gibson

John Beaumont Carew-Gibson was born in Vancouver on July 19, 1913.

He served as a lieutenant during the Second World War.

On August 22, 1944, in Bath, Somerset, he married Marjorie Vivian Morris, who was in the Women’s Division of the Royal Canadian Air Force.
