Archie McKillop was a wholesale shoe dealer. He lived at 1847 Pendrell Street from 1907 to 1910.

 

Early Life

Archibald (“Archie”) McKillop was born in Parkhill, near London, Ontario on February 16, 1869 or 1870. His parents were Neil McKillop and Isabella Walker.

In 1881, he was living with his parents in Middlesex County, Ontario.

 

To Manitoba

By 1891, Archie was working as a shoe dealer in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

 

Marriage to Lottie Watters

On January 24, 1900, in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba, Archie married Charlotte (“Lottie”) Watters. She was born in New Brunswick on January 30, 1875. Her parents were Robert Watters (1851-1900) and Margaret Jane Sharpe (1858-1930).

To Vancouver

By the fall of 1906, Archie and Lottie were living at 1847 Pendrell Street in Vancouver.

Lottie and Archie travelled frequently to various parts of North America and Hawaii.

Archie was an avid horse-racing enthusiast.

In 1920, Archie became ill with pneumonia, but he recovered.

In 1921, Archie declared that he was no longer planning to travel to the United States in the winter because the U.S.-Canada exchange rate was too unfavourable.

In the spring of 1921, Archie and Lottie were travelling to New York. Archie became ill with a cold, and he went to a hospital in Chicago to treat the pneumonia that developed.

However, the treatment was not successful, and he died in Chicago on April 25, 1921.

He was buried in the Union Cemetery in Calgary.

The Vancouver Amateur Driving Association wrote to Lottie to express their condolences on Archie’s death.

Lottie: Later Life

Lottie continued to live at 722 Riverdale Avenue in Calgary until 1928. An auctioneer sold the contents of the house.

When Lottie’s mother died in 1930, Lottie was living in San Francisco, California.
