Iago, Beatrice Emmeline Mary (1880-1969)

Beatrice Emmeline Mary Iago was a clerk and stenographer who lived at 2051 Pendrell Street in 1919, along with her sister, Maude.

 

Early Life

Beatrice Emmeline Mary Iago was born in Islington, Middlesex, England on May 10, 1880. Her parents were Charles Thomas Iago (1849-1914) and Maria Jane Harris (1848-1915).

Charles Iago was a wood engraver who patented a method of photo-engraving in 1885. Charles and Maria were married in Islington, London, on October 8, 1873. The family was living at 55 Riversdale Road, Highbury, Middlesex, in the 1880s.

 

To Canada

Maria Jane Iago and her daughters came to Canada in 1910.

Charles Iago apparently stayed in England, because he was in Paddington, London, in the 1911 census of England and Wales. He appears to have died in Paddington district in early 1914.

 

To Vancouver

Maria Iago, along with her daughters, Lillian, Maude, and Beatrice, first appeared in Vancouver in 1911, living at 538 Carl Avenue (later called Princess Avenue).

Maria Iago died in Vancouver on December 2, 1915.

Life with John Jarvis

At the time of the 1921 Canada census, Beatrice was living with John William York Jarvis. who was a partnership in an accounting and auditing business. He was born on February 26, 1859, in London, England. His parents were John William Jarvis and Martha Emms.

John Jarvis had been married before, to Emily Bridges. Emily was born in England on November 24, 1857. Her parents were Stephen Bridges and Betsy Tucker.

Emily died in Vancouver on April 18, 1927.

On April 20, 1927, in New Westminster, British Columbia, Beatrice and John were married.

John died in Vancouver on April 8, 1935.

In 1949, Beatrice was living with her daughter, Beatrice Waddell, at 2248 West Eighth Avenue in Vancouver.

She later lived in Quesnel, British Columbia for a time.

In the mid-1960s she went to live in Simon Fraser Private Hospital in Prince George, British Columbia. She died in Prince George on November 2, 1969.

 

Beatrice Iago and John Jarvis had a daughter.

 

Lea-Beatrice Jarvis

According to an entry in Ancestry.ca, Lea was born in British Columbia (probably in Vancouver) on August 10, 1919.

In the 1921 Canada census, she was living with her mother, Beatrice Iago, and John Jarvis at 3370 West Broadway in Vancouver. (Beatrice Iago and John Jarvis did not get formally married until 1927.)

On September 2, 1944, in Vancouver, she married James Finch Waddell (1900–1973). James had been married before, to Daisy Maude Tingey (1899-1991). This marriage had ended in divorce in 1938.

On October 25, 1946, in New Westminster, British Columbia, Beatrice obtained a divorce from James.

She had a son: Colin John Waddell (1945–2017).

 

Beatrice Iago had three older sisters.

 

Kathleen Maria Iago

Kathleen was born on September 25, 1874, in Hackney, Middlesex.

On January 9, 1911, in Vancouver, Kathleen married John Edwin Evans, who was a customs broker living at 1129 Pendrell Street. He was born about 1844 in Liverpool, England. His parents were John and Martha Evans. It appears that he died before 1937.

Kate died in Vancouver on July 30, 1937.

 

Lilian Louise Iago

Lilian was born in January 1876 in Islington, Middlesex.

In 1911, she was working as a tracer in a blue-print business.

She died in England in 1925.

 

Maude Marian Iago

Maude was born on August 17, 1878, in Islington, Middlesex.

She never married.

In 1911, she was working as a dressmaker.

She died in Vancouver on December 30, 1958.
