“The death occurred very suddenly at Hatzic prairies yesterday afternoon of Dr. George T. [sic] Young of this city. The doctor was very well known here having practiced medicine for a good many years. The cause of the death could not be definitely ascertained, although it was probably due to heart disease. Dr. Young leaves a wife and two small children, who reside at 968 Broughton street, and was about forty years of age at the time of his death. His visit to Mission and Hatzic was taken as a well-earned holiday.”

“Dr. George Paxton Young, of this City, died very suddenly on Sunday morning at Stave Lake, where he went on Thursday last with a party of friends for a few days’ fishing.

With the other members of the party he arose on Sunday morning and started along the shore of Stave Lake, they being separated from one another. About an hour afterwards his body was found in the shallow water, where he had fallen, evidently after being struck with heart disease. An inquest was held at Mission City of Sunday morning but after hearing the meagre evidence the jury returned a verdict of accidental death. The body is now lying at Center & Hanna’s, and the funeral will take place on Thursday afternoon at 2.30 o’clock.

The deceased lived on Broughton Street and leaves a wife and two children to mourn his loss., He had been a resident of Vancouver for eight years, and had established a large and lucrative practice. He graduated from Manitoba University in 1895, and before coming to Vancouver was in Sandon, B.C.”

He was a professor in a college in London, Ont. When he came to the Kinbrae area, he became the first teacher after the School District was organized. He started school in a granary. There were about seven or eight children close by his homestead and he started a school here for possibly one or two summers. I think that there was a government grant of, $50.00 for the season. He taught for several years in Kinbrae School. I believe that Kinbrae was one of the first country schools to go on a yearly basis.”
