1888 Georgia Street was one of four similar houses on the south side of Georgia Street, just east of Gilford Street. (The last of the four houses to survive was 1890 Georgia Street. Further information appears on the page for 1890 Georgia Street.)

Legal Description: District Lot 185, Block 65, Lot 7 (east half of lot 7).

The four houses did not appear in the 1901 and 1903 versions of the Vancouver fire insurance plan.

Psychic Research Society

In the early 1930s, Oscar Gill lived at 1888 Georgia Street. He was an operator with Canadian National Telegraphs. Around the same time, in 1930 and 1931, the Psychic Research Society held a series of meetings at 1888 Georgia Street. The society was one of several spiritualist groups in Canada.

“Mrs. Or’Range”

The “Mrs. Or’Range” who sometimes lectured at the society’s meetings was Margaret Leonard Or’Range. She was born Margaret Frye in Victoria, British Columbia on December 12, 1877. Her parents were George Frye and Annie Elrick.

On December 2, 1901, in Victoria, she married George Franklin Leonard.

On October 21, 1913, in Seattle, Washington, she married Gordon Parker Smith.
