Everard, Harry Branson (1873-1948)

Harry Branson Everard was a corporation secretary. He appeared at 1888 Georgia Street in the 1911 Canada census.

He was born on March 27, 1873, in Everton, Liverpool, England. His father was Arthur Horatio Everard (1840-1878). His mother was Mary Charlotte Branson (born about 1846).

By 1911, he was living at 1888 Georgia Street in Vancouver. He was working with Alexander Dean of Dean and Everard, who were commercial merchants at 319 West Pender Street.

In 1912, Harry was living at 1268 Alberni Street. He was a clerk with Fox Brothers, which was a cereal, milling and feed company at 975 Main Street.

In 1913, Harry was at 1656 Barclay Street. He was a clerk with David E. Brown and Henry C. Macaulay, who were real estate, financial and insurance agents at 585-587 Granville Street.

Harry appeared in the list of the British Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve during the First World War.

By 1922, Harry was the secretary for the South-East Kelowna Irrigation District in Kelowna, British Columbia.

On October 23, 1922, in Kelowna, Harry married Edith Christina Black, who was a widow. She was born on September 14, 1879, in London, Ontario. Her father was James Muirhead. Her mother was Wilhelmina Bryce.

Edith’s first marriage was to Davidson William Black in Fort William, Ontario, on June 21, 1904. Davidson was a broker who was born in Guelph, Ontario about 1872. His father was Fergus Black. His mother was Georgina Elizabeth McDonald. It appears that Davidson William Black died in Rochester, New York on November 18, 1918, possibly at the Mayo Clinic.

Harry and Edith lived in Kelowna through the 1920s, 1930s and 1940s.

Harry died in Kelowna on April 6, 1948. He was buried in Kelowna Memorial Park Cemetery.

Edith died in Kelowna on June 17, 1968. She was buried in Kelowna Memorial Park Cemetery.

It appears that Harry and Edith did not have any children.

 

Edith and Davidson William Black had the following children.

 

Fergus Fraser Black

Fergus Fraser Black was born in Fort William, Ontario, on December 19, 1905.

He worked as a fruit rancher and orchardist in Kelowna.

On April 14, 1932, in Kelowna, Fergus married Helen Aileen Brunette. She was born on May 11, 1896, in Cornwall, Ontario. Her mother was Arthur Orphiel Brunette. Her mother was Mary Jane Meagher.

Helen died in Kelowna on April 18, 1984.

Fergus died in Kelowna on July 6, 1988. He was buried in Kelowna Memorial Park Cemetery.

 

Ross Muirhead Black

Ross Muirhead Black was born in Fort William Ontario on December 23, 1907.

He went to the University of British Columbia and became a mechanical engineer.

Ross married Evelyn Stewart Hill. She was born on April 27, 1911, on the Isle of Bute in Scotland. Her parents were Henry and Agnes Hill.

Ross died in Powell River, British Columbia on April 16, 1977.

Evelyn later married James Ernest Kent Goldsmith (1903-1992).

Evelyn died in Victoria, British Columbia on March 4, 2012.

 

John F. Black

John F. Black was born in Ontario about 1914. He was living in Kelowna with his mother and his brothers in the 1921 Canada census.

No further information is available for him at this time.
