“Stricken with a heart seizure in his daughter’s cabin on Hollyburn Ridge at 4 a.m., Sunday, Major Archibald Rowan, 1315 Broughton, retired broker, died before medical aid could be summoned.

The 68-year-old retired army officer came to the cabin with his two daughters, Marjory and Margaret, on Saturday. He was apparently in good health Saturday night, but had received treatment for heart disease for some time.

Although death was believed certain, a ski party was organized to take him down the mountain to a physician. Dr. Emile E. Thorrien of West Vancouver climbed the ridge and met the party at the Forks. He pronounced death there at about 8:30.

Born in Scotland in 1872, Major Rowan came to Canada 44 years ago. He came to B.C. four years later and to Vancouver in 1926 [sic]. He was a major in the 231st Seaforth Highlanders during the Great War and for many years was a member of the 6th D.C.O.R.

Surviving are his wife, four daughters, Dorothy, Lucy, Margaret and Marjory, all at home, and three brothers in Scotland.

The body was taken to Hollyburn Funeral Home. Last rites will be conducted Wednesday from Harron Bros. Ltd., in Vancouver.”
