John Young Rochester was an auditor for the Yukon Telegraph Company. He lived at 1835 Barclay Street in 1903.

John Young Rochester was born on September 16, 1852, in Burnstown, Renfrew County, Ontario. His parents were George Rochester (1820-1908) and Marion Baillie (1824-1894).

In 1861, 1871 and 1881, John was living with his parents.

On July 19, 1881, probably in Fort Coulonge, Quebec, he married Jenie Cerena Bryson. She was born in Quebec on April 25, 1858. Her parents were Thomas Bryson (1826-1882) and Jane Fumerton (born 1828).

In the late 1890s, John became associated with the Yukon Telegraph Company. He contracted to sell telegraph poles to the company at a much lower price than that of other sources. This arrangement became the subject of questions in the Canadian parliament, although it appears that no consequences arose from the questions.

Y. Rochester, 1300 Comox street. The ceremony was performed at St. Andrew’s church, and although invitations had been limited to the immediate relatives and friends of the happy pair, the building was well filled by the time the young bride entered the church leaning on her father’s arm. Before her went her ushers, Mr. C. E. Merritt and Mr. .J. H. Sweet, and then the bridesmaids, her sister, Miss Mazel Rochester and Miss Ethel Whitehead. . . .. Mr. J. Y. Rochester gave his daughter away, and the knot was tied by Rev. R. F. Wilson, pastor of St. Andrew’s church, assisted by Rev. William Rochester, of Winnipeg, uncle of the bride. A reception for immediate friends and relatives of the bridal pair was afterwards held at 1300 Comox street, when Mrs. Buchanan received her friends standing with her husband in the window of the drawing-room, which was banked with palms and greenery. Later the happy pair left for Green River Hot Springs. They will return in about a week when they will take up their residence at 1064 Comox street. The groom’s gift to the bride was a gold woven bracelet set with rubies and pearls, which she wore for the wedding, to the bridesmaid and maid of honor, pearl brooches, and the ushers pearl stick pins.”
