Bate, Thomas (about 1874-1958)

Thomas Bate was a machinist and railway repair foreman. He lived at 1069 Denman Street in 1920.

He was born about 1874 or 1877. His parents were Thomas Bate and Mary Haigh.

He arrived in Canada about 1882.

On March 15, 1899, in Carleton Place, Ontario, he married Carrie Bell Bradford. She was born on April 1, 1880, in Grenville, Ontario. Her father was John Henry Bradford; her mother was Anna Bell Hart.

By 1901, the family was living in the Muskoka region of Ontario.

In the early 1900s, it appears that the family lived in Saskatchewan and Alberta. In 1911 and 1913, Thomas was a general foreman in the mechanical department of the Canadian Pacific Railway in Calgary. He was living at 1405 East 4th Street.

Thomas first appeared in the Vancouver directories in 1920. He was living at 1069 Denman Street. He was a superintendent for John Coughlan and Sons, Ltd., who were steel ship builders, structural steel fabricators and brick manufacturers.

In 1921, Thomas was at apartment number 3, 1560 Nelson Street.

By the early 1920s, the family was living in Washington State.

Carrie died in Seattle on December 31, 1942.

Thomas died in on March 3, 1958, in Fort Steilacoom, Pierce County, Washington.

Thomas and Carrie appear to have had the following children.
