John Lyons was a barber who lived at 1184 Denman Street in 1918 and 1919.

John Lyons was born in Scotland on February 9, 1873. His parents were John Lyons and Elizabeth Cowan.

In 1891, John was living in Glasgow. He was working as a hairdresser.

John married Mary Duncan, probably between 1890 and 1894. She was born in Falkirk, Scotland on July 1, 1874. Her parents were Andrew Duncan and Mary Crawford.

In 1901, John and Mary were living in Falkirk, Stirlingshire, Scotland. Their children, John, Andrew, and Francis, were living with them. John was working as a hairdresser.

In 1908 the Lyons family sailed to Canada on Twin Screw Steamship (T.S.S.) Athenia.

The Lyons family members were active in the swimming community. In 1913, John was the secretary of the St. John’s Swimming Club in Winnipeg.

John first appeared in the Vancouver directories in 1918. He was living at 1184 Denman Street, and he was working as a barber.

From 1924 to 1926, he was a barber on R.M.S. Empress of Asia.

John died in Vancouver on March 25, 1942. He was buried in Mountain View Cemetery in Vancouver.

Mary died in Penticton, British Columbia, on June 9, 1958. She was buried in Lakeview Cemetery in Penticton.

John Lyons was born about 1894 in Falkirk, Stirlingshire, Scotland.

In 1901 he as living with his parents in Falkirk.

No further information is available for him.

 

Andrew Duncan Lyons

Andrew Duncan Lyons was born in Falkirk, Scotland, on January 25, 1896.

He worked as a barber.

In September 1914, he signed his attestation papers to serve with the Canadian Expeditionary Force during the First World War. (He gave his birth year as 1894.) He received a gunshot wound while he was in Europe. On November 27, 1918 he was discharged from the military as medically unfit.

On July 11, 1922, in New Westminster, British Columbia, he married Margaret Gallant. She was born about 1890 in Summerside, Prince Edward Island. Her parents were John Gallant and Mary Wedge.

Andrew died in Penticton, British Columbia, on May 15, 1958. He was buried in Lakeview Cemetery in Penticton.

No further information is available for Margaret.

 

Francis Lyons

Francis Lyons was born in Falkirk, Scotland on January 9, 1898.

He worked as a barber.

In September 1915, he signed his attestation papers to serve with the Canadian Expeditionary Force during the First World War. He served in England and France. On July 4, 1919, he was discharged from the military during the general demobilization after the war.

He married Doris Hugheena Mitchell (sometimes spelled Hugheena or Hughena). She was born in British Columbia, possibly in Vancouver. Her parents were Walter Mitchell and Agnes Ann Smirl. (Walter Mitchell operated a restaurant and confectionery at 1997 Georgia Street in 1914 and 1915. He lived at number 3, 1974 Georgia Street from 1914 to 1916. In 1959, Frank and Doris were living in Vancouver. In 1963 they were in Penticton, British Columbia.

Francis died in Penticton on February 16, 1972. He was buried in Lakeview Cemetery in Penticton.

Doris died in 1998. She was buried in Lakeview Cemetery in Penticton.

 

Maisie Crawford Lyons

Maisie Crawford Lyons was born in Scotland on May 15, 1907.

In June 1916, she won a swimming trophy in Winnipeg.

On December 31, 1927, in Vancouver, she married Clifford Clement Moth. He was born in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, on August 31, 1903. His parents were George Moth and Annie Alexander.

In 1942 Maisie was living in New Jersey.

Clifford died in San Juan Capistrano, California, on March 13, 1972.

Maisie died in San Juan Capistrano on November 3, 1988.

Maisie and Clifford had a daughter named Shirley.
