Boyes, Harold Baldwin (1871-1950)

Harold Baldwin Boyes was a real estate broker. He lived at 1800 Nelson Street from 1910 to 1912, and at 1822 Nelson Street from 1913 to 1914.

Harold was born in Slingsby, Malton district, Yorkshire on January 29, 1871. His father was Robert Lawson Boyes (1838-1898), who was the postmaster in Slingsby. His mother was Mary Jane Goodwill (1840-1907).

In early 1904, in Scarborough, Yorkshire, Harold married Nellie Dowson. She was born on September 22, 1877, in England. Her father was William Dowson (or Dawson); her mother was Mary Smith.

Harold and Nellie moved to Canada about 1904. They lived in Edmonton, Alberta, for a short period, and by 1910 they were living in Vancouver.

After arriving in Vancouver, Harold established a real estate business. The Boyes family lived at 1800 Nelson Street from 1910 to 1912, and at 1822 Nelson Street from 1913 to 1915. In 1915, they moved to 1756 Nelson Street, where they stayed until 1930. From 1931, they lived at 1643 Burnaby Street.

Harold stayed in the real estate business until he died in Vancouver on October 29, 1950. He was buried in Ocean View Burial Park in Burnaby, British Columbia.

Sometime after 1955, Nellie moved with her children to 1391 Nanton Avenue in Vancouver. Nellie died in Vancouver on April 25, 1966. She was buried in Ocean View Burial Park in Burnaby.

Winnifred (“Winnie”) Emmeline Boyes

Winnifred Emmeline Boyes was born in Edmonton, Alberta, in September 1905. It appears that she did not marry. She obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of British Columbia in 1927. She was living in the family house at 1643 Burnaby Street in 1952 and at 1391 Nanton Avenue in 1970.

In 1993, Winnifred donated funds to the University of British Columbia create a scholarship in honour of her parents, Harold B. and Nellie Boyes.

Robert Lionel Boyes was born in Edmonton, Alberta, on June 21, 1907. He obtained a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of British Columbia in 1934.

He became a furrier. It appears that he did not marry.

He lived in the family house at 1391 Nanton Avenue until he died in Vancouver on February 14, 1970. He was buried in Ocean View Burial Park in Burnaby, British Columbia.

 

 

Richard (Oswald) Stanley Boyes

Richard (Oswald) Stanley Boyes was born in Vancouver on September 20, 1910. He was an invalid from childhood, and it appears that he remained at home until he died in Vancouver on May 14, 1952. He was buried in Ocean View Burial Park in Burnaby, British Columbia.
