“Car Mechanic Killed: John C. Evans Run Over in B.C. Electric Railway Company Garage,” Vancouver Province, August 27, 1913, page 2: “John C. Evans of 1180 Denman street, a mechanic repairing an electric truck at the British Columbia Electric Railway Company’s garage at the foot of Carrall street, was run over and fatally injured last night as the car started up and passed over his body. He was taken to the General Hospital, but died there early this morning.

Evans was lying under the truck making repairs while the batteries were being charged. Without warning the truck started and the wheels passed over his legs. It was not thought that he was fatally hurt at the time, but it is believed that he either got internal injuries or received a heavy electric shock.

An inquest will be held at Edwards Bros.’ undertaking rooms, where the body was taken.”

“A verdict of accidental death,” Vancouver Province, August 28, 1913, page 22: “A verdict of accidental death was returned by the coroner’s jury in the case of Mr. J.C. Evans this morning. Evans was working on an electric truck in the B.C. Electric garage when it automatically started up and ran over him, smashing his hip and inflicting internal injuries which caused him to bleed to death. None of the witnesses were able to throw any light on what had caused the truck to start up while Mr. Evans was working under the wheels. He was a skilled workman and was known to be cautious. He leaves a wife. The funeral will take place from T. Edwards & Co.’s undertaking parlors at 10:30 tomorrow morning.”
