Hargrave, William Hamer (1864-1950)

William Hamer Hargrave was a bank manager of the Eastern Township Bank (later the Canadian Bank of Commerce). He lived at 1844 Barclay Street from 1906 to 1909.

He was born in Montreal, Quebec, on September 17, 1864. His father was John James Hargrave (1830-1916); his mother appears to have been Frances Hamer.

William’s father, John James Hargrave was married in Manchester, England, on October 4, 1860 to Frances Hamer.  John James Hargrave was later married to Sarah Jane Carpenter (1847-1909).

William became a manager of the Eastern Townships Bank. About 1900, he married Lily Blanche Sicotte. She was born on March 16, 1870, in St. Hyacinthe, Quebec. Her father was Victor Benjamin Sicotte (1840-1914); her mother was Sylvina Gardner Robinson (1846-1901).

Lily died in Victoria, British Columbia, on December 2, 1928. She was buried in Royal Oak Burial Park in Victoria.

In 1930, William was living in Houston, Texas. On March 18, 1933, in Louisiana, William married Ruby Iona Blake. She was born in Mexia, Texas, on April 26, 1884. Her father was John Walter Blake; her mother was Flora Ella Yelverton. Ruby had been married earlier to Mr. Williamson, but she was divorced by 1930.

In 1940, William and Ruby were living in Carmel-by-the-Sea, California.

William died in Monterey County, California, on March 17, 1950. He was buried in Royal Oak Burial Park in Victoria.

Ruby died in Houston, Texas on May 28, 1966. She was buried in Mexia City Cemetery in Mexia, Texas.

William and Lily had two children.

Marjorie Bina Hargrave

Marjorie Bina Hargrave was born on March 7, 1901, in Ormstown, Quebec. She died on August 11, 1901, in Montreal.

John (“Jack”) Sicotte Hargrave

John (“Jack”) Sicotte Hargrave was born on August 11, 1902, in Bedford, Quebec. In 1921, he was living in Victoria, British Columbia. On September 3, 1927, in Victoria, he married Elizabeth Davis Robertson. She was born in Victoria on July 7, 1902. Her parents were Arthur William Morris Robertson (1857-1917) and Elizabeth Nairn (1869-1937).

He died in West Vancouver, British Columbia, on June 12, 1991.
