Henry Charles Macaulay was a merchant and broker who lived at 821 Denman Street in 1907. He also lived at 2065 Beach Avenue in the 1940s.

Henry Charles Macaulay was born in Lindsay, Ontario on May 17, 1876. His parents were Alexander Macaulay (1833-1877) and Adelaide Keenan (1840-1892).

On April 15, 1896, in Portland, Oregon, Henry married Marie Victoria Cameron. She was born on October 27, 1870 in Owen Sound, Ontario. Her parents were James Buchan Cameron (1834-1916) and Mary Brown (1841-1871).

Marie’s father, James Buchan Cameron, had married Mary Brown in Owen Sound, Ontario on May 5, 1863.

About 1898, Henry established a store in Dawson City in the Yukon Territory, although he still maintained a presence in Victoria.

The company later became D. E. Brown, Hope and Macaulay Limited, which went into liquidation in 1916. (The first liquidator was Henry Greenshields Lockwood. In 1917, Henry started a brokerage company under his own name.

He stayed with his own company until about 1938. About 1939 he became the managing director of the brokerage firm of Parsons Brown.

Marie died in Vancouver on January 7, 1944. She was buried in The Abbey at Ocean View Burial Park in Burnaby, British Columbia.

Henry Cameron Macaulay

Henry Cameron Macaulay was born in Victoria, British Columbia on October 27, 1897. (Some sources say that he was born in 1898.) He often went by the name “Cameron.”

In 1901 and 1911 he was living with his parents.

On August 12, 1916, in Vancouver, he signed his attestation papers to serve with the Canadian Expeditionary Force during the First World War.

In 1921, he was living with his parents in Vancouver.

In 1925, he sailed to California on the S.S. Emma Alexander. He entered the United States at Seattle, and he arrived in San Francisco on January 11, 1925.

Adelaide Marie Macaulay was born in Victoria, British Columba on May 13, 1900.

Adelaide’s and Charles’s marriage ended in divorce in Vancouver on June 24, 1936. Charles later married Vera Dorothy Boyd. Charles died in Victoria on May 16, 1963.

Adelaide died on January 14, 1995. She was buried in Hillside Cemetery in Kamloops, British Columbia.

James (“Jim”) Buchan Cameron Macaulay

James (“Jim”) Buchan Cameron Macaulay was born in Dawson City, Yukon on August 22, 1904.

He worked as a drug clerk and interior decorator.

By 1927, James was married to Celine. The marriage was not going well, and Celine sued for divorce.

According to the 1929 San Francisco directory, James was still married to Celine and living in San Francisco, California.

James’s and Celine’s marriage did end. On August 11, 1939, in San Francisco, James married Jennie Gray Pearce. She was born in Georgia on June 7, 1909. Her parents were Earle D’Arcy Pearce (1876–1941) and Jennie Dick Gray (1883–1928).

Ewing Francis Macaulay

Ewing Francis Macaulay was born in Vancouver on September 20, 1912.

He worked as a clerk.

On February 20, 1939, in Vancouver, he married Mary Frances Chambers, who was born in Toronto, Ontario on August 31, 1914. Her parents were Henry Lorne Chambers (1888-1925) and Mary Bell Warren (1891-1980).

In the mid-1940s, Ewing and Mary were living in Edmonton, Alberta. They later moved to the United States, where Ewing worked as an airline dispatcher, and later as a purchasing agent for Kaiser Electronics.

In 1951, Ewing became a naturalized United States citizen.

Alexander David Macaulay was born in Vancouver on December 16, 1910.

On August 31, 1940, in Vancouver, he married Margaret (“Maggie”) Emily Milne, who was a secretary. She was born in Toronto, Ontario on August 11, 1913. Her parents were Douglas Erle Milne (1889-1974) and Elfreda Elizabeth Helm (1889-1978).

Alexander worked with Parsons Brown Insurance Company from 1939 to 1997, except for a break during the Second World War when he was a flying officer with the Royal Canadian Air Force.

For recreation he enjoyed golfing and fishing.

Maggie died on June 29, 2001.

Margaret Macaulay was born in Vancouver.

In early 1944 she was in Washington, D.C. Later that year she was in Vancouver.

She died before 2005.

 

Noreen Mary Macaulay

Noreen Mary Macaulay was born in Vancouver on May 31, 1915 (although some sources say she was born on October 29).

She worked as a reporter.

On October 18, 1939, in Vancouver, she married John Fulton Ross, who was a salesman. He was born on November 10, 1912 in Holland, Manitoba. His parents were William Fulton Ross and Alice Dunn Sharman.

In 1947, Noreen travelled to the United States to join John in Kansas City, Missouri. Her son, Randolph, and her daughter, Susan, were with her.

The Rosses later moved to Denton, north of Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas.

Henry died on April 30, 1991. He was buried in Oakland Rural Cemetery in Porter Center.

Noreen died in Branford, Connecticut on August 8, 2003. She was buried in Oakland Rural Cemetery in Porter Center

Alex was born December 16, 1910 in Vancouver. Predeceased by his wife Maggie in 2000, and six siblings, Cameron, Adelaide, Jim, Margaret, Ewing and Noreen. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Sandy and Don Youngson and his beloved grandsons, Christopher, Benj (Kate) and Spencer. Alex was born and lived his entire life in Vancouver. He and Maggie moved to West Vancouver in 1941, where they spent the rest of their lives. He was with the RCAF as a Flying Officer, training pilots from 1942-45, making many lifelong friends during that time. Upon his return he rejoined Parsons Brown Insurance Company, eventually becoming President and was with them from 1939-1997. Alex was a member of the Vancouver Junior Board of Trade in his early business years. He became a member of the Vancouver Yukoner’s Assoc. in latter years. Alex’s father, Henry, was the first mayor of Dawson City during the Klondike Gold Rush. In 1947 he joined the Capilano Golf Club and became president in 1960-61. He loved his association with the club and had many happy years there enjoying his favourite sport. He was also an avid steelhead fisherman, hanging up his rod at the age of 86. Alex loved children and always stopped to talk to any baby or child during his regular walks between Park Royal and Dundarave. Dad will be greatly missed and remembered for his tremendous wit and sense of humour and determination, right to his very last day. He was so fortunate to have enjoyed a lifetime blessed with excellent health to the very end. A service will be held at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, 2347 Inglewood Ave., West Vancouver, on Wednesday, February 16, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please donate to a charity of your choice. Walk on Grampy.

Noreen Mack formerly of Lewiston Heights and Youngstown, NY died on August 9; 2003 in Branford, Ct. Proud of her Canadian heritage, Noreen Mack was born in Vancouver, British Columbia· on May 31, 1915, the seventh child of Henry· Charles Macaulay of Lindsay, Ontario and Marie Victoria Cameron of Owen Sound, Ontario. Her father was the first mayor of Dawson City, Yukon Territory, elected in 1902 during the Gold Rush.

On October 18, 1939, Noreen Mack married John Fulton Ross, an executive with ·the Canadian Firm, Moore Business Forms. They relocated from Winnipeg, Manitoba to Kansas City, Missouri, Denton, Texas, and finally settled in Lewiston, NY in 1958. Mr. Ross died on August 25, 1961. On June 27, 1962, Noreen Mack married William Henry Mack of Youngstown, NY, then Vice-President of Laur & Mack Construction Co. They were active members of the Niagara Falls Country Club and the Youngstown Yacht club. Mr. Mack died· on April 30, 1991.

Mrs. Mack was a competitive golfer; talented designer and jewelry maker and opera enthuisiast. As a proud mother and grandmother, Noreen Mack accepted her new extended family with caring and enthusiasm. She is survived by a son, Randolph Ross of Danville, CA; a daughter, Susan Ross of Easton, CT; a stepdaughter, Gretchen Greene of Youngstown, NY; stepsons, Christopher Mack of Ganesevoort, NY and George Mack of Skidawy Island, SC, a third stepson, Charles Mack of Saratoga, NY; predeceased her, a brother, Alec Macaulay of Vancouver, British Columbia, sixteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren also survived Mrs. Mack.

A memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Bernard’s Roman Catholic Church in Youngstown, NY at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 13, 2003. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Ainsley Ross-MacCormack Fund, c/o Charles MacConnack, President, Save the Children, 54 Wilton Road, Westport, CT 06880. Since 1992, this fund has provided vocational school scholarships for poor girls in Nepal.”

YOUNGSTOWN – William H. Mack. head of a contracting company co-founded by his father at the turn of the century. died Tuesday (April 30, 1991) in Mount St. ‘Mary’s Hospital, Town of Lewiston. Mack, 84, was a resident of Lower River Road. . . . He is survived by his wife, Noreen (Macaulay) Mack of Youngstown; two sons, George L. Mack of Niagara Fall& and Christopher J. Mack of Saratoga Springs; a daughter, Gretchen Greene of Youngstown; a stepson, Randolph Ross of San Francisco; a stepdaughter.
